NextBox coming in 2012? AMD already onboard

nextbox

It is my personal opinion that the PlayStation 3 has been making good ground against the Xbox 360 recently and unless the team at Microsoft do something fast they will be sitting in last place by the time 2013 comes around…

I have been a little confused by the lack of movement by Microsoft recently but if the latest rumours are to be believed then it may all make sense, first up we have the official news that AMD has already been signed up as the GPU provider for the NextBox* after consuming ATI a little while back.

According to the latest Internet rumours we can expect to see the NextBox sometime during 2012 which would give it around 2-3 years headstart on when I am expecting the PlayStation 4, this expectation is based on the slow PS3 start and the costs that Sony need to recover.

Added to that is a console relaunch along with Project Natal this time next year and you start to imagine that Microsoft are not panicking yet.

The NextBox will be 100% backward compatible with the Xbox 360 titles and Project Natal and will be sold alongside the Xbox 360 for years, exactly like the PS2/PS3 partnership now… with backwards compatibility that is.

Exciting news. ATI gpu’s hav put xbox up early on the PS3 this gen. But more important than the GPU would be the media through which the games are distributed.

how do you figure that? the only way i know that games are distributed via gpu’s is that they are bundled with the box it comes in.

More important than the media and the GPU would be who is designing the cooling system for the thing.

Nobody needs RRoD version two point oh.

Prepare yourself for online digital distribution , it will likely not have any pysical media. No second hand games.

The PS3 doesn’t have backwards compatibility (apart from the 60gig, which comes with a big fat spoonful of YLOD) and secondly, do you guys/girls think that enough technical progress has been made to justify a new console? Will the improvement in graphics really be worth jumping into a whole new generation. I don’t think so.

there will be physical media, the next generation will only make digital distribution more prominent… dvd’s will be around for a little while longer

I agree with this, I think MS would do well to hold out a little longer than 2012. If the increase in graphics arnt good enough then they will have a very hard time trying to compete with a cheaper PS3.

Cool another failbox heading for the market prematurely just purely in order to beat the competition again.
Who knows maybe microshaft will actually consider doing something right for the consumer for once. Thats wishful thinking. Just like it is getting LIVE in South Africa – wishful thinking. To late though, I’ve made the transition to ps3 about 4 months ago, and I’m not looking back. M$, is history in my eyes.

Ooh, a new XBox in 2012 would be awesome. The 360 has been around for a while already, so an upgrade 2 years from now seems about right. I just hope to god it doesn’t look like the one in the picture.

Just my opinion, but since I’m a conscientious consumer, I’ll only consider getting the third Xbox variety (presumably the xbox 720), if there’s actual proof that MS will be tackling the serious RROD issue.

I’m not American, nor do I swim in money, if something appears to be of low quality, and I begin to feel that I’ve been taken advantage of, brand loyalty dies a miraculous death.

Therefore, given my history with the xbox, I will pass on the xbox 720 (or Millennium Falcon or whatever they’ll call it), and wait for the PS4 or even Nintendo’s entry into HD gaming.

In any case, Gears of War 5 and 6 (lol) will be on PC as well, so I won’t miss anything.
