It’s only out in a month’s time, but Gears of War: Judgement, the next game in the blockbuster third person shooter franchise has been leaked online, meaning once again that pirates get to play before paying customers. It’s popped up on torrent sites and other bits of the internet’s seedy underbelly; just know this – playing the game online will probably get your console banned.

"We are aware of isolated cases in which Gears of War: Judgment content has been propped on the web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation immediately," Microsoft ‘s PR chap Graeme Selvan told us.

"Consumers should be aware that piracy is illegal and we take vigorous action against illegal activity related to our products and services."

It’s warned that illicitly playing the game before release will likely result in a permanent ban from the Xbox Live service.

"Playing pirated copies of games, such as Gears of War: Judgment, is a violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use and will result in enforcement action, such as account and console bans."

Microsoft should also put an eye towards its own distribution and manufacture – because every single high-profile Xbox 360 release is leaked well in advance of retail availability. Every single one.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.

Those evil PC pirates, this is why they don’t want to release games on the master platform anymore…. oh… wait a minute…

      XD

    XBOX 720 now with DRM

Old school marketing. Make your game seem so important that people are willing to go to jail in order to pirate it. I bet they are the ones leaking this shit on purpose.

You see??? the 7th gen has made us distrust everything that Devs and Producers say. THEY ALL LIE… ALL OF THE TIME. yet people still pre-order shit.

I wonder how much damage Aliens rubbish has done to the Gearbox brand name.

I wonder if it had been better not to release the game and write it off.

        • Sir Captain Rincethis

i believe SEGA had a deal in place and not releasing the game would have led to a lawsuit. Still, rather risk that than the loss of fans!

        • mornelithe

Hasn’t harmed their name at all, for me. Gearbox may have missed w/ Aliens, but Borderlands is beyond reproach.

          • Purple_Dragon

Ag we all know Borderlands is great and will continue to be. However will you still rush out and buy a Gearbox game that is not Borderlands?

Usually I would be chomping at the bit for a Gearbox game but after two horrible massive failures, DNF and Aliens, I will wait for reviews now. I thank my stars I waited for reviews on Aliens, I was about to get it first day.

          • mornelithe

Well….I always go the review route, there are very very few titles out there that I’ll just buy because I trust the developers. It’s like any other product on the market, I don’t buy a car without researching it, I don’t buy PC parts without researching them, and I won’t buy a game without knowing it appeals to me.

Games developers are as shady as any other company out there, we just haven’t learned as a demographic to truly research our purchases, and then vote with our wallets.

          • Purple_Dragon

Yeah, I usually go the review route as well. But there are some developers I buy from without a thought like Rockstar, Naughty Dog.

The best route though is to find a site that mirrors your tastes. Like I know if Lazygamer says a game is great than I’ll usually like it as well.

I also like to peek at gameplay videos, those usually help a lot.

          • mornelithe

Well, to be perfectly honest, I check all games. Even though it’s unlikely that I would ever not buy a GTA game. Developers, Publishers and Hardware manufacturers lost my trust awhile ago. And it’s up to them to try and earn it back. Though, I quite honestly think I’ll never go back to just buying games willy nilly.

I usually depend on multiple sites to get an impression on a game, though, the two best methods are gameplay vids, as you suggested, as well as developer diaries and information located w/in the developers forums.

But, as a general rule, I just don’t trust one site to determine my intent to purchase. I need more than just one source. That may be a side effect of the hideous bias in American News though, has nothing to do with LG.

“Consumers should be aware that piracy is illegal…” Charging R600.00 for a four hour game should be as well
