My 360 Hates me… A Remix

Anyone who was on the site yesterday will know that a personal PS3 rant from Gareth landed up causing quite an explosion within the PS3 community, from our own comments section to local forums.

We did not anticipate the response but found it interesting to say the least and had some people questioning if we would ever do one for the Xbox 360 as well. Truth is, we don’t have to.

One of our readers redirected us to a thread about our article that had been started on the PS3za.co.za forums and in it, I found an absolute gem of a post by one who goes by the name of Valente. What it is, is a “remix” of the article but this time, modified for the Xbox 360 instead of the PS3 and with quite a comedic twist to it as well.

I had a really good laugh reading through, as will you and the towel comment is absolutely priceless although he does also speak many truths as well.

Give it a read and let us know what you think, after the jump.

“So yesterday, I decided after a long debate with a friend of mine to sell him my 360. It was an old Core and he wanted it because it was cheap. So with the money I went and “upgraded” to the new 60gb with 1 Controller and a copy of Viva Pinata. All was good and I was when happy until I got home.

The happiness ended the moment I opened the box and unpacked it, because as I really should have known they ship 360’s with the bare essentials. The console is not even HD ready out the box and that’s right, I forgot to buy an HDMI cable. Besides that, just the experience of unpacking the box was disheartening. No controller charger, why not just throw in a cheap one with some 360 branding and Wi-Fi, that would be nice too.>

So after my trip back to the store to pick up a Controller charger, a towel and a Wi-fi adapter I was now ready for online gaming – well, not really. At this point i would just like to note that in the box of a PS3 system, you get a Mini-USB cable, Wi-fi and a Blu-ray player. But that aside I finally get to plug the 360 in, gaming goodness couldn’t be far away now…

But it was. Firstly of course, it’s a new console so it needed an update to NXE, unfortunately the update took an hour. Another thing I noticed was that the 360 sounded like a Boeing 747 taking off. With that finally done and another 10 minutes or so to set up my profile, to my shock and horror, I noticed that I actually needed to pay to go online. I was furious, why would I pay to play over my own internet?

Anyway, I popped in Fable 2.“Oh look it’s updating”, “oh and there’s another 10 updates to follow”, that’s fantastic. While it was updating, I went to the store and got me some Earmuffs to drown out the sound of the 360’s Jet engine. So after what was the longest update(s) of my life – around 45 mins, I could now play games. A couple of minutes later, my dog walked in and bumped my 360. A horrible noise entered my ear’s and there was a nice round engraved scratch on my disc. It was unplayable. Too bad then that After 3 hours worth of cables, fire extinguishers, updates, Live, scratched disc’s and whatever I really didn’t feel like it anymore.

This all did however get me thinking this morning. I thought the updates were necessary because the “glitches” in Fable 2 was not great, but Gears runs fine (well the online doesn’t), and it doesn’t need an update? The sad ending to all of this is that Christmas is coming and a lot of people may be receiving 360’s for gifts, I just think it really sucks and borders on unacceptable that all the stuff needed to enjoy your 360 could be ruined by the infamous RROD.”

Anyone keen on hooking us up with a Nintendo Wii Remix? Not that it matters, the Wii has sold a gajillion units and will probably continue to do so even if news spread that it was killing small animals.

Thanks to Valente for the post. I think half of the PS3 forum nearly died of laughter yesterday afternoon.

  1. Only problem with his “article” is that it is Hd ready out of the box.

see those red, green and blue cable that came with the box, do have a hd switch which if your tv give is support 1080p.

So no need for a hdmi cable at all. As all hd tv’s do have input for it, and if your don’t you most likely have been sold a dud.

It’s all fine and dandy to post a anti-360 story, but can you guys please post a real story? This one was clearly made up and all install times where over exagerated.
PS3 fans may not have liked the story Gareth has writen but at least it actualy happened.

Well yes, I did realize that the 360 does come with a HD cable, but I would prefer an HDMI cable to go with my TV. I do own a 360 and have experienced the RROD before. Most of the points there are true and I just thought it would be funny to put 360 in the place of PS3 😆

A but that is your preference, it takes nothing away that you are able to play HD out of the box on a pro, if you have now made the “article” to say you bought a arcade then it would have been valid because it does not have a hd cable only sd. or the last time I checked,.

So it is not Microsoft fault that you prefer hdmi, but having said that depending on make and model, some tv’s are better on hdmi, others on vga and others on composite.

Both articles are funny but are they really newsworthy? I suppose it’s a slow time of year for game news, so we have to put up with these types of articles. Glad to see at least there’s some balance though.

hahahaha….had a real good laugh at this. couldn’t find anything untrue about this, except for the HD ready thing, oh and the fact that it sounded like a boeing before you even put in the disc (sounds like one when u have one in tho 😉 )

I think it’s a pretty good comeback to the PS3 article but this is even less news worthy than the PS3 one. Imagine the riot if the PS3 one was totally made up like this one.

I realise that this isn’t the most newsworthy article but at the same time we like to throw in something different every now and then rather than only focus on news. Who would be happy if Top Gear only focused on affordable cars that are light on fuel and comfortable for family trips.

If you can prove there exists a 40Gb backwards compatible SKU PS3, anywhere in the world, I’ll believe that it happened to Gareth.

I’ll tell you my 360 story though:
    Already had 1xRROD
2 x scratced DVD’s, luckily they still work. The console was never knocked over.
I’ve only played like 4 hours of GeOW2, and already had 3 disk read errors. The disk is brand new with no scratches.
I’m not even going to mention the countless hours wasted replaying games that gave read errors and bombed on me before a crucial save point.
And now that I have all 3 next gen consoles and a PC, I can tell you that the xbox is by far the noisiest machine by far. I never really noticed it until I got the PS3 and Wii.
But truth be told, apart from being a bit dissapointed by GeOW2, I still love my 360.

Dude, I honestly believe that Microsoft spends months trying to find the absolute lowest bidder to supply DVD’s and then tells them to cut production costs in half.

Gears 1 and Forza’s discs were both shocking. One of my friends Forza discs even warped after a short while. 😯

I would rather have a home console + portable than two home consoles. If you have two home consoles the one ends up gathering dust. The Xbox360 is more value for money than the PSP imo. R1800 for HD gaming is sweet! It’s a difficult choice.

make suggestions like a big ass fan next to your xbox you know stuff like that. And Why do people always talk about the noise the xbox make. Im gonna be darn honest with you now. the Xbox starts up normally doesnt sound anything lik a boeing 747 to me . as if people play they’r games on mute just to wait for the fan to make some weird noises

” and to get HD sound go buy the HDMI kit at Musica cost you like R600 or something. And this isnt for a laugh this is just plain lame every xbox is FULL HD ready but i admit the 1st generation wasnt FULL HD ready
