MW3 is just recycling buildings and error messages Flame On
   November 9th, 2011 clock image 8:30 am

PleaseRrcycle

Claims of Modern Warfare 3 just being a pretty map pack or expansion to Black Ops, MW2 and the rest of the COD series are nothing new.

Whether you believe it to be a worthy stand alone title or simply a glorified expansion pack is up to you in the end but what is factual is that Modern Warfare 3 uses a lot of assets and code from previous versions of the game.

Take for example this video which clearly shows that a building being used in the Modern Warfare 3 single player (no spoilers) was taken directly from Modern Warfare 2 where it may in fact have actually looked better.

Of course recycling assets isn’t that surprising and makes good development sense. However you would have thought they would have changed it a little at least.

But buildings aren’t the only thing recycled from a previous Call of Duty title with this lovely little error message pointing to some code re-use from a much earlier title.

KKv5u

Someone at Infinity Ward just got slapped for hardcoding the title into a generic error handler.

I’ve only had about an hours worth of Modern Warfare 3 and so far I’m enjoying it. It’s obviously very similar to Black Ops and MW2 but some of the new kill streaks are awesome at least and the game is as solid as ever.

Keep an eye out for the full review in the next few days.

    That error message is _hilarious_.

Rofl nice one well it does look exactly the same as the other MW games. Every time I see call of duty the most amazing thing still is how far the Quake 3 engine is pushed.

  • Jimmytheediblewyrm

I don’t really see what the problem is… As any designer will tell you, work smarter, not harder. And if pulling a few building models from older versions lets them spend more time on other areas of the game, then i say go for it, recycle away.

If they had cloned an entire segment of the game, and just re-skinned it I would take issue.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JI422YSUYHEEX2FJPHJZPXX5IQ Syth Za

The problem is you pay the price for a new game (actually more) and then get a piece of rehased shit. But hey, if you want to be gullible, please support them.

I choose to say fuck you Activision, I’m smarter than a 5th grader…

      • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

        Amen Brother, AMEN!

What really annoys me is how reviewers actually gave this game a solid 9 rating (probably out of fear that Activision would pull their advertising money).  So far, only a Norwegian website has had the balls to call a spade a spade.

I really hope someone uses the sales argument,”Oh but MW3 sales is going to eclipse other games”, guess what Einstein, Justin Bieber outsold many of his peers this month, and that doesn’t change the fact that his music is.. Crap on a stick!

PS: Those errors are hilarious, so glad I’m not touching this turd.

What the hell are you talking about!? This is the MOST ANTICIPATED game in history!

        Most anticipated by Activision shareholders..:p

I should have bought Activision shares.. :( Sigh!

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Fortin/1676018196 Nick Fortin

LOL yea, speaking of that, they used the EXACT SAME over-lay for this game’s commercial (“Most anticipated game in history” one) as MW2. This game was nothing but activision and IW trying to get as much money as possible without really doing anything. They didn’t spend that much time on this game and i’m almost certain they spent more money on Advertising than on the development.  They no longer care about producing a quality product, they have found a formula for making an arcade game sell. good for them but it still doesn’t change the fact that its of a VERY poor quality and you will NEVER see a “Great” CoD game again.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Fortin/1676018196 Nick Fortin

Yea well thats pretty much what they did for the entire game. Changed a few killstreaks, put a lil more recoil on some guns and the rest is just reskinned.  I am sure the only real time spent developing or coding this game was for the singleplayer.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I purchased BF3 over MW3.

well considdering BF3 is NOT a sequel to BC2 i don’t think so. Considdering they totally re-vamped the FrostBite engine and actually TRIED to produce a good game, which they pretty much did.  You can’t split screen BF3 and BC2 and not tell which is which, MW3 vs MW2 you can’t tell(besides the map). So they smoothed out a few textures, so they TRIED(and FAILED) at dynamic lighting, wow…. still an over-priced skin/map pack.  BF3 atleast has new animations and new physics. Things that could NOT be added via patch or expansion, there is NOTHING in MW3 that could not have been done via expansion or patch.

  • http://twitter.com/D4RKL1NG Martin du preez

    Same shit,different wrapper.

  • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

Before someone says “Oh James, why do you hate Activision so much”, it’s not Activision per se, but rather their business practices.

All of this is bad for gaming in general, because what it tells other developers is that you can half-arse your major franchises and still get fools to buy it, better yet get them to pay for DLC in advance, by making them pay for a stats tracking service… (I MEAN WHAT THE FUCK?) Not to mention, some of the most ridiculous crap Activision has passed has been without condemnation from the established gaming press (and I don’t mean, your community website, or your community reviewers, but rather the big dogs).

It’s utterly unbelievable. When EA tried to enforce DRM on us through Spore, the media and the community went into a feeding  frenzy, but Activision unveils something similar, and nothing, not even a whimper. All you hear is a little bit of rumbling on the forums, and some guy ranting on website.  When Guitar Hero started to choke the living life blood out of the music game genre, publications only started to take note when people started to spam their websites and on forums about how utterly shite Guitar Hero has become, otherwise. I’m pretty sure Guitar Hero would have released it’s 40th game by now, if the status quo remained, with glowing reviews from “certain major” reviewers and their sites. It’s just so bizarre. Killzone 3 was crucified for being “generic”, and yet nothing is said about Call of Duty: Copy and Paste?

Resistance 3 is another game that reviewers wrote off because it’s also supposedly “generic”, yet it’s one of the most solid FPS games of this year, and the franchise as a whole is underrated. Gears of War 3 was criticised in some corners for rehashing and even for being generic, and yet those same reviewers are gushing over Modern Warfare 3.

Are the benefits that great to write positive reviews for Activision? Do they give out gift bags? What is it? Do you get asked to corporate retreats? Do you get stock options?

MW3 is one shitty map pack. lol 1 bf3 map is the size of 5 maps combined. I switched from call of duty to battlefield after black ops, 60 bucks for the same game over and over again.

AND WTF IS WITH THIS STAT TRACKING. wow. Battlelog does it and social stuff for free!

  • TG

wow, you’re all a bunch of ass holes. I bet none of you, also took into consideration the fact that Activision was withholding MW2 sales due to IW to keep them working on MW3. So what if they reused some buildings? It’s no big fucking deal. Every damn game reuses it’s buildings for some reason or another. And to the person bitching about rehasing. I feel like you’re the type of person who bitched about L4D2, but still bought. Ever stop to think, it’s just a rehashed version of L4D?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000605007488 Edwin Sechrist

Hey… Ummm… Sry, but for 1, Halo never reuses coding or buildings into the other Halos, AND they build their own engine/tweak it everytime they make a game, not like CoD where they use an engine about 10 years old called the “Unreal Engine 3.” They barely put any money, time, or depth into their games, they deserve to sink. CoD fanboys r posers, real gamers play BF3 and Skyrim. BF3 is as realistic as it gets, CoD has a bunch of weird crap that happens which makes luck a lot greater value than skill. They don’t like BF3 cuz THEY CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH

All I can say is CoD keeps breaking the sales record set the tear before by the previous one, so as long as it sells more and more every year Activision will just keep on cranking out new Call of Duty games every year. I guess what i’m saying is if you have a problem with a company putting out a product that millions of people flock to stores to pick up on opening day then stop bitching and play something else.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Fortin/1676018196 Nick Fortin

Yea, and that’s because about 60% of the people who play CoD are 18 and UNDER which is kind of funny considering the Mature rating, mommy and daddy buy it for them. They don’t care, people who actually spend their OWN money on it tend to choose BF3 or others.  MW is now the teeny-bopper franchise and will ALWAYS sell to those little immature kids(who shouldn’t even have the damn game to begin with).  It’s a fast paced arcade game designed with the small attention span of today’s ADHD ravaged youth.  I had ADD when I was a kid but I would still sit down and play the original Zelda, or FF1-X, but today’s kids are way to impatient and can’t deal with anything taking any time or effort so they lean towards the run ‘n’ gun type games. All we can hope for is for this generation to grow up quickly and realize they are the bane of the gaming industry. Turning games that would otherwise be around 12-20 hours of gameplay into a 4-6hr crap fest.
