MW3

Just as the sun shines and water is wet, Activision has announced another Call of Duty game, this time Modern Warfare 3. Those who’ve grown tired of the samey nature of the COD games might find something to like in the new one; Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling says they’ve “ moved beyond the MW2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff for MW3.” Modern Warfare 2’s IW Engine has powered pretty much every COD since the second, and is based (but heavily modified) on the now ancient id Tech 3 – the engine that ran Quake III Arena.

From what we’ve seen of the gameplay so far, it looks pretty damned good, and Infinity Ward promises that it’ll offer the best multiplayer the series has seen to date.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is by far the most epic Call of Duty experience yet,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. “The teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have worked tirelessly to create for the Call of Duty player a scale that is unimaginable with a level of polish and creativity that will push the genre forward. The passion and energy of our developers is reflected in everything about the title. From the innovative gameplay, to the cinematic intensity, to the most advanced multiplayer ever, Modern Warfare 3 will raise the bar for this already incredible franchise.”

IW’s also confirmed that the game will have dedicated serves this time around. Modern Warfare 2’s console-like peer-to-peer networking system, IWNet, was shunned by Pc gamers – and it’s not a mistake that Infinity Ward wants to repeat.
