That might be harder said than done.

Sure, they’ve (IW and Bungie) established themselves in their respective niche titles, but given the recession, general software sales decline, new IPs may be far too risky for certain publishers (cough Bobby).

I really don’t envy the developers, because I’m sure some of them would like to try new things, but the buck (literally) stops with garnering interest in a new IP and getting the necessary funding for it.

I don’t know. I can see another developer coming in to do a Call of Duty title, but it wouldn’t be named Modern Warfare 3. Other than that, I do agree with you, Geoff. Infinity Ward (and Bungie, for that matter) need to show and prove with different IPs.

I really doubt it Geoff, our man Bobby proudly proclaimed that he’s reluctant to try new IPs and would rather milk existing franchises, until their nipples are dry and cracking.

I certainly hope this is the case – It’s not that I’d want another developer doing MW3, it’s just that I’d like Infinity Ward – who are exceptional developers – to branch out and do something else. A nice, fresh interesting IP from them would be great.
