Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer: So… How’s It Going? Popular

MW2camper.jpg

Yesterday saw possibly one of the biggest videogame releases like, ever. A whole bunch of controversy has surrounded the title for the last couple of months and mostly due to multiplayer features that people didn’t agree with.

We already had a pretty lengthy multiplayer session last night but we want to hear from our readers this time. What’s it like on the different platforms? What do you PC people have to say about the online now that you have tried the matchmaking instead of servers, anyone having any issues or does anyone have something awesome they want to share?

Hit us up with some comments, the good, the bad and ugly. Let’s hear it.

Shocking! Wii Fit Results “Underwhelming” says Study

  • Uncle

I would be interested to hear from a PC owner of the game. Personally I am waiting for the next Battlefield game.

  • WeRRieS

It’s pure bliss! Nothing can compete with the MP aspect of MW2. Well done to IW.

    • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

What platform are you playing on WeRRies?

      • WeRRieS

On the Xbox 360. Nothing can compete with it…nothing!

    • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

From the looks of things last night, on the Xbox version, it didn’t seem possible to keep games fully private. People from friends’ friends’ friends lists were just jumping right in

  • WrathZA

XBox360: No lag on local games (384 adsl unshaped), many new players from that weren’t around for the COD4 fragfest. A large bucket of WIN!

  • ClericZA

Did I play with you last night Nick?

Anyway, played on Xbox Live, and found it awesome. No sure of the host speed, but my 384 line was perfect.

    • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

No, dont think so. I was playing with a few buddies

  • Jimmytheediblewyrm

The games we played last night were awesome. As self-confessed COD-aholic, i am thoroughly impressed and happy. I can only speak for the Xbox version here.

The thing where people can join your game after you turned join during play “off”, is exactly the same as COD4, you need to actually set this inbetween every single round, because it will constantly reset it the moment you head back to the lobby.

  • http://digitalcamo.co.za abe

The PSN invite system is completely gimped.

  • janrik

All PSN MP games are initially gimped.

But they are working on it I hear from IW.

    • RSA-Ace

yeah just like warhawk and uncharted 2.

no not all PSN MP games are initially gimped.

Oh yeah and All XBOX MP games are initially gimped – look at castle crashers and GeOW2.

      • RSA-Ace

(sorry slow day at work today :dizzy:)

instead of giving thumbs down why not state your reason?

i said the same thing as janrik basically yet he didnt get any?

or do i need to put sarcasm tags on?

  • Oliver

Any non Console fanboi comments? … any feeling on PC’s MP, where most of the controversy is?

  • Oliver

Any non Console fanboi comments? … any feeling on PC’s MP, where most of the controversy is?

  • Phoreals

Using a 384 dsl line for PC I get 2 bars. Fail. Back to CoD4 I supposed

    • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

So I take it you weren’t able to join any local games?

  • Fred

Local invites did not work for me , but international games were very playable on my hsdpa connection.Im on PSN.

    • RSA-Ace

Fix coming for PSN party invites on friday.

  • Vg2

I’ve been playing on PC, multiplayer, for the past 5 hours straight. It is undeniably awesome. Almost all were local games as well, theres a steam group called Modern Warfare 2 SA and once u join u can check ur friends list for when any of them are playing and join their game, so most of the time it will be local! Only problem is one of the players has to host, (same as consoles i think) and that chows the cap hehe

    • Uncle

Can you find games? Or do you have to know someone who is on a friends list?

      • Vg2

If u join the Group Modern Warfare 2 South Africa on steam it adds all the players in the group on your friends list under that group name (usually near the bottom). Then u can click their name and say join, or u can just add them to your friends list (easier i think)

  • Oom

Modern Warfare 2? Meh, far too happy playing Dragon Age. :P

  • bokka1

I played on Xbox and did not have too much problems. Had a lobby problem where I hosted a game but it did not want to launch. I dropped and joined again and the game launched. I was not the host anymore.

  • Napalmdeth

Its amazing how 384 guys suffer more than the guys with HSDPA, yes i know we have better upload and download speeds but NAT’s are moderate and latence is higher too.

    • RSA-Ace

i have 384 and it played fine last night on the PSN.

  • dreamhunk

did you hear EA is moving over to online only

console gaming is not making money

oh one more thing did you hear about facts on so called pircay

    http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61203

TIGA, a trade association representing the UK games industry, recently surveyed its members about the rising impact of software piracy on game developers, and whether or not it threatens the survival of their businesses. Not all implies smooth sailing, but the results are mostly positive.

Gamesindustry.biz reports that ninety percent of those surveyed showed broad agreement that piracy is a growing issue, but some of the survey’s other findings aren’t necessarily what you might expect. For example, of the 90% that feel piracy is a growing threat, only 10% of that group said they felt it posed a considerable threat to company viability. Sixty percent indicated that piracy, although an issue, does not pose a serious threat to their businesses.

When asked about the (admittedly controversial) possibility of attacking pirates via government intervention – by effectively limiting broadband usage – the results were quite polarizing. Half those polled liked the idea, while the other half opposed it.

The recent survey appears to be in line with another poll conducted by TIGA in September. According to the September report, the majority of responders stated that they expected their businesses to show measurable improvement or growth in the next 6 months, while only 6% expected some degree of decline. However, it’s also worth noting that in the very same survey, 47% predicted a financial decline over the same period, and only 41% foresaw an increase.

Richard Wilson, TIGA’s CEO, believes there are some sensible conclusions to be drawn from the recent responses. “Developers are not complacent in dealing with this problem and are mostly seeking to find solutions for themselves,” he stated, “rather than simply relying on the government to solve the problem of piracy.”

I guess the gaming Industry and media is full of alot of lies huh

EA online only BS they selling plenty they just suprised that the wii has 50 million users and games sell less than a million most of the times you’s expect at least 5-10% of the audience to buy sport games

  • krYtHan

How do the international games fare?

    • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

I joined an international game last night on Xbox Live and was surprised that it found me a game with very decent lag (sounds like it was a UK game). Granted I am on a 4mbps line using iPeg’s Unshaped, which obviously helps but still, really playable.

I did like the way that it matchmakes though, it first looked for games with a under 100ms ping, then goes from there.

  • lans
