mighty no 9

That kickstarter Mega Man successor from the very guy who created the blue bomber has closed its funding period, making more than 4 times the amount of money that was necessary for the game to be made.

The Kickstarter campaign itself closed with $3,845,170 – but the total was brought to over $4million thanks to pledges totalling over  $186,380 made through PayPal.

Thanks to all of the funding, We’ll now be seeing The Mighty No. 9 on more than just the PC; met stretch goals means it’ll be available on just about everything that plays games; PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360, Vita – and PS4 and Xbox One too.

The game will be built running on Unreal Engine 3, and will feature gameplay very, very similar to Mega man, just with a modern veneer. Here’s what it could end up looking like when it’s running.

I’m pretty damned happy that we’ll finally be playing a new Mega Man, even if it doesn’t actually feature the little blue guy, who Capcom relegated to board games and free-to-play mobile titles. Somebody at Capcom has to be kicking themselves though; $4 million earned for a game that doesn’t rightly exist yet, capitalising on people’s love for a character they own, but neglected.

It’s funny when other people make your games because you just don’t give a shit anymore
