A couple of months back, it was rumoured that Microsoft might start up an incentive program, giving Xbox gamers real life rewards for those achievements they’ve spent years unlocking; making them worth a little more than just being a digital wang extension. Microsoft has now done that, launching its Xbox Live MyAchievements rewards program.Here’s how it works.
Those of you who have amassed a gamerscore of between 3000 and 9999 will now be given a special gift by Microsoft on your birthdays.They haven’t quite said what that gift might be, but there’s a little disclaimer at the bottom of their rewards page saying that your shiny birthday gift would be valued at a whole 25 cents. Yup, roughly the equivalent of R2 – the sort of money you’d feel ashamed to give a carguard for looking after your vehicle while you went to Woolworths to buy almond croissants.
If, however, you’ve got a gamerscore higher than that, you’re in for some real reward. If your gamerscore sits between 10000 and 24999, you’ll now get an awesome 1% rebate on your Xbox Live purchases; so for every THOUSAND DOLLARS you spend on the marketplace, you’ll get TEN BUCKS back.
Those of you who have a higher score will get…a 2% rebate. That’s where it caps off – so don’t expect any more; Microsoft’s already giving you everything you ever wanted.
MyAchievements is available to Gold Xbox Live subscribers from The US, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Spain and Italy. Once again, those of us in SA get snubbed – but I’m pretty sure you don’t really care.
