Mass Effect 2 Offers Extra Content For Original Purchasers

This isn’t the first time that we have seen something like this and I am pretty sure that it isn’t the last.

EA is making its move to try and entice gamers into buying brand new copies of games rather than buying them second hand (which EA sees no money for). While this does, of course work as a method to prevent gamers from pirating the game, they seem very concerned over the ever popular second hand market, which in the end, means the same thing to the publisher at the end of the day.

So to get you to buy new instead of second hand, EA have thrown in some nifty extras, including a new character. Hit the link below to find out what you will be getting when you buy it with the plastic wrapping intact.

  • New missions
  • Extra in-game items
  • A new mercenary-type character “Zaeed” include in the extra missions
  • Cerberus Network unlock code (update system for news, dlc availability etc.
  • Extras should still be available at a cost

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me, considering that so many people were going to get the game new anyways, so bargain for them then.

There has also been an announcement of some DLC that will be available not too long after release such as a new vehicle, some new armor, weapons, missions and so on.

The big question of course, is whether or not us poor South Africans will be eligible for the additional content. I have contacted EA for comment on the matter and will hit you guys back with the information as soon as I get a response.

For now, I’m just going to continue being psyched for Mass Effect 2’s imminent release.

  1. Mass Effect on the PC was brilliant, cannot wait for 2… Wait I can but I won’t, but then the fiance says I have to… Do you think everyone would understand if I called off the wedding.

    Here’s how it works:
DLC will be delivered via something called the Cerberus System. Think of it like Halo Waypoint, a downloadable gateway to DLC. A new copy of ME2 will come with a single-use unlock code that allows you to DL the Cerberus. Inside the Cerberus, all the DLC will be free (for now)

If you buy a second hand copy though, you can DL the Cerberus application for X MS Points (not priced yet) – This is good news for me, as my brother will be buying ME2 (I’ll be buying us bioshock 2) and I can just buy this Cerberus application and get all the DLC.

will ceribus be linked to “the email” account logged to bioware, or just to your pc. so if you are always online, use the code on the gamertag(always) loged on on the machine not always loged on so you can have it on 2 xbox at one house.

I don’t understand why the industry want to get rid of second hand sales. Second hand sales actualy drive first hand sales since I trade in my old games to buy a new one. If I couldn’t trade in my old games I wouldn’t be able to buy as many first hand games.
