Kingdom of Amalur needs to be installed–Dev Popular
   January 26th, 2012 clock image 10:45 am

I try so hard to not get wound up by news stories relating to game installs on consoles but it just doesn’t happen. Yes I understand the technicalities around the idea but I hate installs and a game shouldn’t be gimped if it isn’t install like Battlefield 3 is on the Xbox 360.

Maybe I’m not as mad about this one seeing that it’s an RPG and that’s a far bigger game world that needs to be rendered on the fly but still if Skyrim could do it you guys really have no excuse.

But according to a KoA developer, Ian Frazier, has told OXM in no uncertain terms that to really experience KoA properly you are going to need to install the game.

If you have a hard drive, for the love of god, please install

If you’re on 360, please install. You will have much, much smaller load screens. Please, please, for the love of all that’s holy, install.

I think that’s pretty clear isn’t it? And before any PS3 fans start dancing a jig about this just remember it’s 99.999999% sure that you are going to be forced to install, so both sides are losing on this one.

He also went on to say the demo was far buggier and not as well developed as the main game. Apparently the demo was outsourced to a third party and the code that was used was a 3 month old build with only some bug fixes applied.

The final game obviously won’t be entirely bug free but he does feel it will be a considerably better experience than the demo.

Oh and while you are here I recommend heading over to our Q&A we posted with the Kingdom of Amalur developers just yesterday

i played for demo for this game and it’s TERRIBLE

    • http://twitter.com/StingRayZA Raimund Hook

Really? I must say I quite enjoyed it. It took the game from some minor background noise in my view to a ‘must have’ title…

But then that’s just me ;)

      • http://www.twitter.com/WobblyOnion Geoffrey Tim

yeah, I’m totally hot for the game too. But I love high fantasy, and RPGs, and goot combat games..so what’s not to like?

it’s Fable but with linear dungeons

        • Anonymous

You got that from the demo?

          • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

I thought Fable was the one with linear dungeons and a non-open world, so this is Fable but without linear dungeons and an open world? :P

        • Anonymous

I actually sat down and ran through the demo again, and just finished. I used every last second exploring the area available to be and I must say that it is pretty open. I even discovered some places and stuff that I missed the first time round.

The only linear area was in the opening sequence and I’m asuming that it is a mit of a tuturial, so you can’t really use that as an excuse. I found a dungeon/ cave thingy place. Got lost trying to find some crates and destroy it.

So I ask again? How could this be linear dungeons?

It’s fucking awesome. You probably left the moment you got to the character customization.

Ah Gavin…. Every game theres an install but we dont care as PS3s have harddrives with plenty of space….People were conned into buying XBOXs with the  smallest possible  harddrives and now they suffer and have to pay more to get extra space! the PS3 is the cheaper option in the long run and XBOX were very scaly in their marketing strategies…Skyrim was also full of bugs so not the best comparison…

    • http://twitter.com/JimLenoir James Lenoir

I was about to post this. I honestly don’t see what the big deal is, and to be honest, those with PS3s probably don’t give a damn either. You install a game, you go make some coffee, you come back, it’s done. I always install on xbox though, because the less the moving parts are forced to move, the longer my console stays alive.

Actually Skyrim had to be installed over the same reason otherwise loading would take around 40-60 seconds. It’s all covered by Head2Head. Seriously, quit your whining, there’s a reason hard drives were invented and most software, be in on console or PC requires an install.
