When Kinect meets Super Mario Bros.

Do you know what I love most about Kinect? It’s not the amazing tech behind the peripheral (despite it being, you know, amazing) and it’s not the games that have shipped so far (nothing has really grabbed my attention yet). It is, however, seeing what people have managed to get the thing to do.

Like this clip for example. It shows the work of one Yankeyan, who has utilised those Kinect PC drivers to get motion-sensor functionality into Super Mario Bros. This is running off a PC using Nintendo software emulation.  Yankeyan says, “I could have placed a simulated keypad right in front of me that I can press with my hands, but I thought full body gestures were more in the spirit of Kinect”. It certainly does keep with the Kinect ethos of getting gamers to move around a lot; this looks like damn hard work.
