What, socks again? The festive season is usually predictable, with bad gifts, vaalie invasions at the coast and the same franchises releasing new games every year. But for Assassin’s Creed, they’d have to be “very stupid” to not release a new game every year.
“We are able to offer people a new Assassin’s Creed every year because they want Assassin’s Creed every year,” Ubisoft’s VP of creative Lionel Raynaud said to Edge.
As long as this is true we would be very stupid to not satisfy this need, but it puts a lot of pressure on us to create something that will never disappoint.
It needs to keep the series core values and we need to really make sure that we have a good, high level understanding of what it is to be an Assassin. We have to make sure we always deliver a better feel and overall experience every time while still bringing something that they haven’t seen before that’s consistent with being an Assassin in the world we’ve created.
This annual plan includes current-gen consoles, with a game or two on the way. While Raynaud wouldn’t comment on the rumoured Assassin’s Creed: Comet, he did say that “we want to be able to provide games to people who are playing on these consoles.”
Comet is reportedly launching at the same time as the new-gen only Assassin’s Creed: Unity. There’s still plenty of life left in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it’s nice to see some support for those consoles continue as that generation starts to slowly wrap up.

As long as they’re average at worst then people won’t complain too much.

I am enjoying Black Flag a lot… As long as the quality is there I don’t see why not.

Agreed. It’s not the same as with COD, as AC needs to actually expand on the story for people to stay interested seeing as it’s mainly an SP game.

I actually hope they keep working their way till the pass our timeline and it become a futuristic settings too.
This whole franchise has SO much potential and I think Ubisoft has the integrity to deliver!

It could tie into DX. There was an Abstergo-themed level in Far Cry 3 too.

It’s thing like annual AC games that allow them the freedom to make games like Child of Light.

That comes every 5 years?

March 31, 2014 at 14:14
Yeah but every now an then we get a Dead Space. Then those games get sequels which deteriorate exponentially

Big publishers are risk averse. They’re not going to gamble on new games every year while people are still happy buying sequels.

I don’t blame them either. It’s not their fault. but the market that they’re in. Where a single failed game could spell doom for your company. You are very right in that AC allows them to experiment with new games. But I think this just proves how toxic this industry really is

Hmmm, I haven’t “wanted” nor played Ass Creed since AC2. Haven’t even purchased that new Johnny Depp one.

I’ve got it, due to lack of launch games but I was completely surprised at how good Black Flag is. Return to glory I think. However the combat has been stripped down from AC3 in terms of types of weapons available which is only swords and guns. AC3 had quite a selection of different weapons and awesome combat animations.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed AC4. Wait for it to come on PS+ :))

It’s the same saturation as with sports game,COD and BF. I will maybe buy one every four years or so then.

I do the same but on a 2yr basis with FIFA. Waiting to see how this new UFC title pans out and I might finally consider getting a PS4.

I think that the next AC game I will get is the Ninja/Japan version, but
they’ve already said it’s not going to happen any time soon and by the
time it’s released the AC games will likely be stale.

Kak story! They just make any game in any time period then slap an AC label on it to ensure sails (see what I did there?)

I’d rather they take 3 ~ 4 years and make a truly amazing game rather than release a CoDified copy, paste job every year.

As trev mentioned , it’s quite a huge gamble. It’s sad, I feel Ubi has a shizz lot to offer, but they can’t really because it would be too risky

The Problem is, The longer Time between sequels, The less hype from the General populace.
Look at Bioshock Infinite. It was a financial Flop for 2K. As Spectacular as the game Was, It took the team Too long to develop, which translated in lackluster sales. Look at Farcry 3, Fantastic Game, amazing, actually, but know Ubisoft is forced to churn out Farcry 4 Will it be as good? probably not, Will it sell? Definately. Some one else linked it in comments on another post, but everyone should watch this video: http://youtu.be/Cxhs-GLE29Q
