More people played as the soldier class than every other class combined. did you know that about mass effect 2? Me neither, but now I do – thanks to IGN and a Casey Hudson, Executive Producer for the series. How do they know?
Well, apparently Mass Effect 2’s got a little bit of an Orwellian nature about it, as it’s been tracking stats for players across both currently available versions of the game. Don’t worry though, Bioware aren’t going to use that information to send you mails about increasing the size of your penis.
No, this information will be used to help make Mass Effect 3 a better game for everybody.
“The only data that we get are in terms of events — little things that happen in the game,” explained series producer Casey Hudson.
“Let’s say if we want to know whether players skip lines of dialogue, we can have that become a little event that gets sent up. It’s all completely anonymous, so all we get is raw numbers for how many times these kinds of events occur. There are some things regarding difficulty and weapons and things like that and those are easier to tune, but there won’t be a huge opportunity to include this stuff for the PS3 version,” he said.
"Ultimately what it means for players is that we don’t have to guess anymore about what players are doing. We can actually learn about what they like and what they don’t like and just try to focus on building the good stuff."

Look, I loved Mass Effect 2 – it’s probably one of the best games I’ve ever played…but 28 times? is that not a little excessive? Ps3 owners will find out next year, when the game releases for their console of choice in January.
