Buying new maps through Call of Duty’s Elite service only allows those maps to be played on one account. It’s a huge problem, not least because it violates Microsoft’s own Xbox Live terms and conditions. It seems it was an honest mistake – and not some greedy scheme by Activision.

“We understand that ELITE Premium Members on Xbox Live who purchased the latest DLC Content Drop for Modern Warfare 3 are unable to access that content while signed into other profiles on the same console that originally downloaded the content,” Infinity Ward’s mouthpiece Robert Bowling said in a statement to Joystiq.

“This is unintentional and we will work to get an update out as soon as possible that corrects this issue and allows you to continue to enjoy the new maps.”

New maps for Modern Warfare 3 were released on the service earlier this week – but only for Xbox 360 players. Those who like their Call ‘o Duty on other platforms have to be content to wait an undisclosed time for that timed exclusivity deal to pass.
