Here’s what you’ll need to run Mass Effect 3 on PC Popular
   January 19th, 2012 clock image 10:00 am

MassEffect3PC

Mass Effect 3’s coming to PC soon – and though it’ll be locked to EA’s Origin service, that’s hardly going to cause boycott, right? It is Mass Effect 3, after all. If you’re getting it for PC (and half of you moaning about Origin will likely end up getting it anyway) here’s the sort of hardware you’ll need to experience the end of Shepard’s story.

Minimum Spec:

  • OS – Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1, Win 7
*Supported chipsets: NVIDIA 7900 or better; ATI X1800 or better. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 9300, 8500, 8400, and 8300 are below minimum system requirements, as are AMD/ATI Radeon HD3200, HD3300, and HD4350. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.
  • CPU – 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
  • RAM – 1GB for XP / 2GB RAM for Vista/Win 7
  • Disc Drive – 1x speed
  • Hard Drive – 15 GB of free space
  • Video – 256 MB* (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support)
  • Sound – DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • DirectX – DirectX 9.0c August 2009 (included)

Recommended Spec:

  • OS – Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1, Win 7
  • CPU – 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (equivalent AMD CPU)
  • RAM – 2GB for XP / 4GB RAM for Vista/Win 7
  • Disc Drive – 1x speed
  • Hard Drive – 15 GB of free space
  • Video – AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB or greater, NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512 MB or greater
  • Sound – DirectX 9.0c compatible

As you can see, that’s not exactly the most demanding hardware – which makes sense really. The underlying technology behind the game, Unreal Engine 3, is largely the same as when it powered Mass Effect 1. Of course, it’s also a console port, and consoles are over half a decade old, so of course your beast of a Pc can run this, right PC gamers? I’ll probably be sticking to console for this game, but not in some sort of misguided protest against Origin; my saves from previous games are there an importing your own Shepard is a big part of the experience.

We need a 1x Speed Disc Drive!? Noooooooooo…… Where will I find one!? Other specs seems fine.

  • Theuberutang

Sweet, decided to just download a Shepard that matches my Shepard closely and get this on PC over one of my consoles.Reason: Price.

The PC N7 edition is cheaper than the Std Console edition, so yeah…

Some time agon read, that it is possible to get the saves of your xbox harddrive and getting them to work on the PC.

But sadly I can’t find the forum post anymore. :-/

This will be my first Origin game so i hope that it just works and i can play the game for what its meant to be.

  • Henk Roux

Origin will improve as time goes by, just like Steam sucked balls in the beginning. But look at it now.

    • http://www.twitter.com/WobblyOnion Geoffrey Tim

That’s a good point. Anyone who recalls how completely broken the service was when it launched with Hal Life 2, compared to what it is now will know that it’s worlds apart.

the other side of the coin is that Ea, with their budgets and expertise and knowledge of how Stem works should have made it better from the start.

    • atomic

I dont understand your statement…  Steam still sucks.

I have 4 steam games and cant play any of them as they are constantly downloading 37gb of updates..

If I try to reinstall the games, well… I give up after after about 2 days when it fails to download 3mb of game cache files needed to start the install, yet chows about 30gb of bandwidth in the process.

Thank pirates for smartsteam..  I can finally play all the games I have paid for…  and more.

      • atomic

oh, and before you tell me to disable the auto updates..  I did, it still downloads all updates for itself, and other games, and then removes all games from my list, telling me I have nothing to play.

  • Stephan

    No Direct X 11?

  • http://twitter.com/eXCheez Gareth Lagesse

Great to see that my 2.5 year-old PC will run it just fine.

Is anyone else having a ridiculous time updating their Origin-based games? I have to juggle IP blocking software and Origin instances or else my game updates sit at 0%. =/

  • Erwin Kempff

guess I have to bite the bullet with Origin, I CANNOT MISS ME3.

(Mental note: finish ME1 “correct playthrough”, import character, make “correct choices”, wait for ME3)

    *sigh*

Achievement Unlocked: After buying a PC recently, I have, for the first time in my life I think… actually had the experience of reading recommended specs that are less than the machine that I actually own!

I used to have a badass PC, then I took an arrow in the knee…

  • MadG

Specs arent bad at all. But considering its a console port im not surprised…
Spent most of the december holidays replaying 1 &2 with the ”correct” choices :D
Although Im still not sure that saving the rachni is the right choice or if thats gonna bite u in the ass. Same said for the geth heh
