So we have all seen the new trailer for Halo Reach and the reactions so far have been pretty positive.

The visuals are looking really sweet and now we get to find out more about who these blokes in the video are as well as where they all fit in. I’ve never been a big Halo fan but I am hoping that Reach will push the series to a new level and do something really special.

Hit the jump for the press release.

Step into the boots of a Spartan III and prepare for the first look at “Halo: Reach,” the highly anticipated prequel to the “Halo” trilogy from acclaimed developer Bungie coming fall 2010. The very first “Halo: Reach” video had its worldwide debut last night during the Spike TV Video Game Awards by actress Tricia Helfer, offering gamers a taste of the story to come.

Taken from part of the game’s opening cinematic, the video provides the first look at the story of “Halo: Reach,” which introduces players to Noble Team, a squad of battle-hardened Spartan soldiers. “Halo: Reach” charts the story of Noble Team in their heroic stand to defend the planet Reach, its people and secrets against a ruthless assault by an alien collective known as the Covenant.

“Halo: Reach” is being published by Microsoft Game Studios and launches in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360. The “Halo: Reach” multiplayer beta is coming spring 2010, which players can access exclusively through “Halo 3: ODST.”

The “Halo: Reach” video is available now on Xbox LIVE and Bungie.net. Press only (do not publish the URL): for .wmv files and a screen shot from the “Halo: Reach” video, go to: http://edelman.psni.com/public/Halo%20Reach/

  1. OMG, they made a typo…

Step into the boots of a Spartan III…

At the timeline of Reach the Spartan III project was not jet fully operational… Master Chief and his buddies are Spartan II’s, not III’s

The SIII’s also did not wear (do not wear) the Majolnir armour… they use SPI armour…

What a nasy mistake to make!

I thought Reach was post Halo trilogy, so would that make the press release correct? or am I just wrong?

No Reach is before. When Halo 1 opens, the Pillar of Autumn is in the process of escaping the devastation at Reach.

        from the Halo Wiki :

“In that same interview [regarding Reach], he also confirmed that the new game was a prequel to the events in Halo: Combat Evolved”

The Spartans in Combat Evolved were definitely II’s, so it seems like either the press release is wrong, or there are is some sneaky fishery afoot.

        No, pre-‘halo’.

Reach gets attacked just before HALO1 kicks off.

The timelines after Halo1, but before Halo2 is a bit wonky due to space time compression in slip space and all that, but MC does go back to Reach after Halo1, and hooks up with some spartans there, but teh S3’s are at that point still in the works, on Onyx.

The armour the supposed S3 wears is totally wrong though to begin with, he must be a S2.

They could conceivibly have a S3 there in Majolnir armour, but to spoil a big ‘twist’ like that …. damn. (if that is indeed the case)

Nope, it’s impossible for a Spartan III to wear MJOLNIR armour. They don’t have the correct augmentations and strength to wear it. It does make sense though as in the trailer as the main character walks in a Spartan says to the commander “I didn’t think anyone survived Pegasi, sir.”

Referring to the only two survivors from the Pegasi Delta mission in the “Ghosts of Onyx” book, Tom and Lucy.

        Dude, you are correct!

Might be one of the 3’s that survived that we where not told about in Onyx…

    Spartan 3’s 2537
    Battle for Reach 2552

So He might be a S3 after all. Huge twist there. Mmmmm.

Sorry MS. Maybe not a typo then.
