Half Life 3 will be an open world console RPG?

If you normally take Half Life Episode 3 rumours with a pinch of sale may I recommend ordering a truck load for this one as I just don’t believe it.

But according to OXM an anonymous source has told them that while Half Life Episode 3 started development as a linear shooter, just like the other episodes, the game then morphed more into a puzzle solving exploration title.

Which is still believable and relevant but apparently it has now morphed into an open world RPG styled shooter, much like Borderlands I guess, which is something I just don’t see Valve doing as their bread and butter is the linear shooter model.

So what do you think, is this a far fetched rumour or would Valve really try something like this?
