When we talk about the industry’s mega-titles we quickly start thinking about Call of Duty, Battlefield, FIFA and even Assassin’s Creed. But in reality they all pale in comparison to the juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto.
It’s hard to really compare as Call of Duty breaks sales records every year so it is easy to think that it’s the biggest selling title but when we start looking at percentage of console owners buying games, one game stands tall.
Back in 2008 Grand Theft Auto IV sold 630 000 copies on launch day, which is nothing compared to the numbers Call of Duty posts but in 2008 that figure meant that 1 in every 4 console owners picked up the title.
We’re now 5 years down the line and the console market in the UK now sits at 13 million and the current pre-orders have 2K estimating that a fifth of console owners are going to pick up GTA V on launch day which works out to nearly 3 million units sold in one day. The current record first day sales in the UK stands at 1.4 million for the original Black Ops and the current worldwide record is 4.5 million for FIFA 13 (delivered to retailers).
With GTA expecting to sell through 3 million units in the UK and way way more in the USA we could be in for some eye watering numbers later this year.
GTA V is releasing in September on Xbox 360 and PS3.

That will be the day. Hell, we would be lucky if a game is not RUSHED the fuck out the door to meet the console release. Then we wait for 8 months to add a few more games to our 5 rack CD case.
Expect this gen to be well fed for another 5 years while this gens future games are ported up to next gen and released on the same day on both gens.
This transition is nothing like the jump from the last Gen. This gen is as strong as an ox.

Well no doubt GTA:V will record eye-watering numbers, everybody has got their eyes on the new sequel which is going to be bigger & better than ever GTA game made, the pricing of the game looks steep but most of us have started the saving & Budgeting for the game, expecting to get my copy on launch day hopefully, 😉

Should be very careful who you piss off here mate. Megarom have stated the game will ship to South Africa at $70, that was their estimate. If you want to go up the page now, like to OVG and act like some smart arse go ahead. Lazygamer has articles on the higher price, you should do some research before you come out trolls blazing. You will realize people here dont tolerate trolls. And as someone who is a resident, and has written for LG, nor do I. Bad way to start here, very bad.

GAvin, the owner of this South African site, went into great detail about how the game is to ne shipped to us for $70. If You look up to Khunlanis post you will see he is planning on paying more. OVG is willing to pay up to 1500, which it won’t cost but the reason everyone is talking about the price is not because we all think the game will cost the same as Bioshock Infinite. We are kindda bleak about it to be honest, but I think mkst will splash out, I will! 🙂

@Gav If you think about it logically, the game will break records because it is so bloody expensive.. so even if they sell the same amount of copies as some of the other TripleA games, then they still win… I just want to know what their expectation is.
