Historically, Rockstar North’s games this generation have just been that teeny, tiny little bit better on the Xbox 360 than the PS3. It was true for GTA IV, and it true for Read Dead Redemption. while we’re all busy waiting for Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry to do an in-depth comparison to confirm our own platform biases, here’re some comparative screenshots (via Reddit) for you to scrutinise.

Maybe it’s because my eyes are a little slanty and don’t let enough light in, but I’m seriously struggling to tell much difference between the two sets. What do you think? which looks better to you? does it bloody well matter?
For me, it all comes down to frame-rates, and well, apparently neither versions is really up to the task – though I’m really glad that it seems Rockstar’s managed something resembling platform parity.

GO BT GAMES CANAL WALK.
Not only were the staff kind and jovial, but they went the extra mile to inform a very full shop about the Mature nature of GTAV and checked ID on some of the kids in school uniform. They then informed every 360 owner how to install the game for optimum results.
Also some darn fine looking gamer chicks in the line 🙂

That’s what I like about BT Games. I was in their Bloem shop over the weekend and the dude behind the counter went to great lengths to explain to the mom that the game her 10 year old chose were full of drugs and violence and wasn’t appropriate for his age. The mom actually thanked him for the info and let the kid go and choose something more appropriate.

Great job on both platforms. However the colour looks just little richer on the PS3 version as well as a little more detail in certain areas. For example look at the first two pictures at the bottom and bottom left corner. The detail on the objects are much more clear on the PS3 while a bit smudged on the 360.

Looks like the light is hitting a little bit harder on the drawings on the PS3 version than the 360 version, which, for me, is kinda bad. It makes the 360 version look that little bit better in my eyes. Shame that I have it for the PS3 then..

The PS3 version seems to have a slightly more natural shading and better blending. Screen shot 1 and 4 seem indistinguishable but looking at the shadows on the pier, particularly below the ferris wheel and the bottom left tree of screenshot 2 seems to have better blending on the PS3 giving a smoother, more rounded looking tree. Although it could be the contrast that’s throwing me off. Bloody hard to spot a difference, if any.

Needs more close up shots to check quality and screenshots with more people/vehicles to check shadow count and distance. Note screenshot 4: The vehicles nearer to you have shadows, but the ones further away do not.

Gtav is one hell of a game, I messed around quite abit pushed some hobos around, then cops came onto me, rode threw the hobos stuff used fence as a ramp. Loved the bike mission was AWESOME! Then spent remaining time last night having fun with the tow truck. Nothing quite beats stopping at a traffic light and hooking up a sports car then going fast around corners and letting it go! hehe
