Flamebait Friday Debate – Wii Motion Plus vs Playstation Move vs Project Natal Flame On
   April 23rd, 2010 clock image 9:30 am

FFDwii.jpg

Happy Friday folks, it’s the weekend and we here at Lazygamer are all extremely revved-up and excited to go home and do absolutely toss-all. It also means that it’s time for our Flamebait Friday Debate.

Motion controller thingamawhatsits are all the rage with the kids these days, aside from that damned devil’s music, what’s it called? Oh yeah, Hannah Montana.

Nintendo has been absolutely dominating this generation with the Wii and it’s grandpa-friendly motion controllers but the HD boys are coming to town and they want blood.

Sony is introducing the Move, which looks to finally offer gamers the true high-definition hardcore motion-controlled experience that they have all dreamed about. Nintendo has just recently released the Wii Motion-Plus, which is what many believed the original Wii would already be. With their popular IP’s and wizards of game creation, they are still definitely in the game.

Microsoft’s Project Natal wants to use your body instead, leaving controllers and buttons out of the mix completely. They are also marketing it as more of a complete living-room experience, with voice and facial recognition rather than just a motion-controller for games.

So which one is going to come out tops? Is Sony going to steal the Wii’s thunder, are Nintendo always one step ahead or will Microsoft surprise the world with something completely different?

Let’s hear it folks. The gloves are off.

Wii is silly, it gets old after a few hours. I don’t know anyone who’s had a Wii for more than 6 months and still uses it.

Move it the same as Wii, so I don’t care for it either.

Natal will be cool-ish for menu integration, but as for gaming it’ll be silly as well. Controllers, Mice and Keyboards are meant for gaming. Waving your arms around slapping fish out of rivers is for children :pirate:

I still use my Wii. It’s awesome when games are made properly, and motion isn’t unnecessarily tacked on.

  • http://www.gamerlobby.net koldFU5iON

I’m not a fan of any to be honest, however if I were to choose it’d be the Natal. I still feel though that the Natal should have required you to wear something i.e. a bracelet/glove just to indicate that you’re the active player in a game. I mean the chances that some in your living room is going to need to walk past you to get something is all too possible and it’s going to destroy the interaction.

    • Fox1

I think it scans the person before entering a game thus to limit confusions.

    • http://www.lazygamer.co.za Geoff

It won’t work that way. Natal will recognise you – and if you’re the only actively signed in player it’ll only focus on you – so people can walk about without them affecting your game at all. If you want to bring another player in, they’ll have to sign in.

  • uberutang

Stuff that, where did you get the original pic?

    • GoldenSilver

Second this. Sauce on pic plz. Oh and to keep this related. The Wii. It’s marketed to the casual I wanna jump around market and has already a steady client base. The Natal and move will sell a few in the beginning to the gimmick and shiny new stuff fans and will steadily loose thunder cuz no hardcore gamer wants to jump around in front off his tv after a hard day’s work. that’s my 5c

    Natal > Move > MoPlus

But realistically Move is gonna be the best.

  • xMATTx

That ad for the move with Kevin Butler pretty much says it all…
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0puP8nrIU8

Cos Kevin does bring up some interesting points, how will you play shooting games on the Natal if you don’t have buttons? will you shout bang bang?

  • http://www.lazygamer.co.za Gavin Mannion

I am a big fan of the Wii, it really changed this generation for the better and is something that everyone should at least try at some point.

As for the Move and Natal? Well the Move will be the best for pinpoint accuracy and active games but honestly I don’t think that is enough reason to fork out that amount of cash.

Natal has that sexy gadget feel to it and I am more excited about seeing Natal at E3 than anything else.

  • WitWolfyZA

I say Move will come out victorious. Just seems like NATAL has too many unanswered question and loop holes, with some sites saying its a glorified eye toy (what it really is at the end of the day)

    • http://www.lazygamer.co.za Geoff

Except it really isn’t – as far as the technology and software is concerned. the tech is awesome, and it has some cool potential. I’m just not convinced of its potential for gaming.

      • WitWolfyZA

I totaly agree with you, it may be good for face recognition and motion sensing.. but thats about it….

Might be something the FBI can look into

  • mitas

i prefer a controller , but what i would like to see is the end of the tv remote – i wanna wave my hand and change channels

  • ptownscottie

Well I must say from a tech standpoint you have to go with natal but from a market standpoint I don’t think the move will take anything from wii. I am interested to see how well the natal maps you because as to the question about shooting games it could be as easy as you acting like your pulling the trigger…nobody seems to remember the little racing demo microsoft did and it showed the guy shifting. All in all I think its all going to help us gamers waste a little more time lol.

    • http://www.lazygamer.co.za Gavin Mannion

I’m hoping they bring out a game that helps me get rid of this beer gut… I could really do with some more movement in my job
