FFD: What’s this generation’s best franchise?

Talking 'bout MY GENERATION!

We’ve previously tried to see what this generations best franchise is, based on critical reception – but now we want to find out what real-life gamers think. Since the beginning of the 7th generation we’ve seen some pretty amazing game franchises.

We seen Gears of War popularise the cover-based shooter, Mass Effect boldly go where no other RPG has gone before, Uncharted’s raid tombs in an unmatched cinematic manner. Dragon Age has shown us how to exist within one cave; The Witcher’s proved that games can be made for adults and LittleBigPlanet’s let us build our own worlds.

Portal’s melted our brains and Dead Space has made us crap in our pants. Assassin’s Creed made us stab happy  and Bioshock helped us rethink the way video game narratives could affect us – while Angry Birds gave us something to do on the toilet.

All great series – but which do you think is the best, and why?

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
