FFD: Is it game over for Modern Combat shooters?

Ever since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s release  and subsequent explosion in popularity in 2007, we’ve pretty much been inundated with copy-and-paste, me too games from  every money-hungry games publisher, wanting a slice of that pie, trying to cash in on the popularity of the genre.

It’s pretty much history repeated; the same happened with World War II based games – lead by games such as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor, until gamers grew tired of the setting, and killing Nazis – and the World War II FPS largely disappeared.

Have we come full circle?  Have we reached that same saturation point with the Modern Combat shooter? Hell – even Call of Duty’s trying something new this year, in a world where Medal of Honor: Warfighter even exists.

Are you still content with killing Arab terrorists in sandy locales, and Russian revolutionaries on rooftops – or is it time for the FPS to evolve again?
