February NPD figures – Was Killzone 2 a System Seller? Popular
   March 21st, 2009 clock image 1:00 am

NPD, the market research folks who track stateside console and software sales have released their figures for February – and it should come as no real surprise to anybody that Nintendo continues to dominate the charts. The waggle-machine with too many unnecessary peripherals sold an astounding 753,000 units in February, while its little handheld cousin sold a total of 588,000. With recent reports that South African lifetime sales of the DS has reached 20,000 units, it highlights just what a small market we are.

On the software side, 644,00  people bought Wii Fit to accompany their new consoles. Street Fighter IV took second and third spots, with the 360 just outselling the PS3 version with 446,000 units to 403,000.

That’s not why you’re reading this though is it? You want to know how Killzone 2 did in its debut month.

Find out after the jump.

Not as well as Sony had expected, unfortunately. Killzone 2 came in at 5th with 323,000 people kicking Helghast arse. Sales of Sony’s Killzone 2-capable console increased by 73,000 – but this feat’s value is diminished by the fact that it’s nearest rival, the Xbox 360 sold 82,000 units more than the previous month – and that’s without any noteworthy exclusives unleashed on the public that month.

Of course, Killzone 2 was only released late in February. We’ll have to wait until March’s NPD figure to really see its impact.

  • Wii — 753,000

2 DAYS!! I agree with what you say about waiting for March NPD. Anyway it sold really well in Europe and I would love to see those figures :)

  • janrik

Call of Duty: World at War (360) 193,000?

Jeez still selling well, months after release?

  • RogueOne

Killzone 2 is a system seller imo.

Its the first game that has had enough ammo to turn my head. If it was anywhere around the XBOX arcade price, it might have been for me.
