Fallout: New Vegas Patch Finally Available For Consoles- Is It Enough?

Fallout: New Vegas has been plagued with some horrible bugs and glitches since its release last week, leaving a very bitter taste in the mouths of many.

A PC patch was released over a week ago and now the updates for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are finally available for download over their respective online services. Even though Bethesda Softworks are stating that the patch fixes hundreds of bugs and issues, it seems that people are still complaining about ongoing issues.

You can go out and grab it now, and hopefully if you have been having any issues, this will sort it out. If not, you can be sure that they are already working on the next one in the hopes of finally getting everything sorted out.

On a side note, I actually had some major bug issues when reviewing Fallout 3 two years ago (wow… that long ago already) that had important people in the story just turn up dead for no reason, making some missions impossible. One major character even disappeared, and the map said that he was in the main river, instead of the town. I also had multiple issues with waypoints and paths to quests being incorrect and just going in circles, so these issues are very possibly still stemming from the original design of the engine.

Let’s hope it all gets cleared up soon.

Considering the patch was only 18MB and the new Castle vania patch is 18MG and only fixes a saving issue i would say no. That patch could hardly have fixed anything.

The games not unplayable and ive yet to run into any of the game breaking bugs that are described on the 360 version in the forums ( I decided to go for PS3 version because the Xbox guys are raging on the forums ).

The problmes i have run into:

    – Some quests seem broken. I couldnt solve a virus problem for the BoS and in one case i couldnt find someone at the designated map are until i barely saw a piece of armour sticking out of the ground. The guys entire body was stuck under the ground and in a wall and i still couldnt search him to get said item.
    – At certain hotspots like the battle between camp Hope VS the town of Nelson my PS3 froze about 20 times trying to get through that mission.
    – Randomly the PS3 screen goess blank and takes to to the XMB for no reason. This happened twice.
    – Poor framerates that literally crawl in certain areas but seem to work better when you reload them. Except Camp Hope vx nelson again. I was lucky to get through there with all the problems.
    – The game still has those stuttering moments every 10 seconds as you walk the wastelands like Fallout 3. It usually seems to happen when things are loading and popping up in the distance as you walk.

Overall though the game is fantastic and better than Fallout 3 for me after 50 hours. Ive hardly touched the main storyline and the game is definitely more challenging than FO3 which is good news. If you can look passed the technical problems theres a great game. Still though this game never should have been released in this state. Theres no way testers missed some of the problems that ive run into. This game was rushed. Also the Gamebryo engine needs to die now!!!

A Bethesda game having technical issues is to be expected, right? Remember the mess that was Morrowind when it first launched?

I expect the community will (once again) release community patches to fix everything that they miss. Still, with all the positive press about New Vegas, I really do hope they fix the broken stuff.

That patch size is usually kind of irrelevant, since most of the Bethesda game problems is scripting-related, AFAIK. The Oblivion patches were tiny, but fixed a lot.

How do you download the patch? I need a step by step process. I am assuming x-box live? After that no idea.

Yes I have storylines and quests I cannot complete.

Are you playing on Xbox 360? Is that what you mean? If so then yes you need Xbox Live, then you just start the game up and it will give you the option to download the patch

This is crazy. We already have to fork out a fair amount of money for games, now we are expected to be happy with sub-standard games chock full of bugs. Never mind the additional costs for downloading patches etc.

I am not buying Fallout New Vegas or F1 for these reasons. It really bugs the crap out of me, when you wait for ages for a game and then it gets released with bugs.

Anyway, I had a bit of a rant about this on the forum the other day, so won’t say much more!

Its just crazy, please carry on screwing over your fans till you have none left.

I can’t find the patch at all. I went to xbox live and the only dlc I found were the trailers. I’m seriously considering just taking this hot mess of a game back and trading it in for something that actually works and doesnt make me want to pull my hair out. My husbandand I both played fallout 3 and loved it so I’m incredibly disappointed with New Vegas

The depth and complexity of a game like fallout where the player can do all kinds of weird things in a non-linear enviroment will always have bugs… I’ve put in 20+ hours and haven’t had one yet. They’re doing their best and have provided an update in under a week which is great.

Additional cost for bandwidth? Whatever… @ 18meg even if you’re paying R50 for a gig (which is well above normal pricing) the bandwidth costs come to under R2…

Maybe as a software developer I feel their pain. I do think it’s a fantastic game and most people are overreacting.

It wont be listed as DLC but will pop up as an update when you launch the game. If it’s not there yet just give it a bit of time.

The game is buggy on PC as well. But since it can’t get worse, it can only get better. Fallout 2 and 3 both had their own bug issues, all of which were sorted out by patches. So I’m not too bothered.

Patience is a virtue. I stuck it out when I had problems just installing the game on PC and now I’m enjoying the hell out of it.

This isn’t true. This is from one of the Admin’s on the Bethesda boards, “The PS3 (North America) got the patch that Xbox 360, PS3 (Europe) and PC received late last week.”

If you read carefully I meant bandwidth generally 🙂 Some games have patches that are up to a gig in size!

Check your connection because as soon as you start the game up it will tell you theres an update available. By the way the patch is not going to help with the freezing. It might fix a few quest issues but thats about it. My game still froze another 30 – 40 times even after the patch. Although i clocked 80 hours in the game.
