F1 2010 Codemasters vs Real Life Popular
   August 30th, 2010 clock image 10:30 am

Formula1

A couple of years ago all the news posts were about how close to realism the GT5 video’s were. Well there is a new pretender to the crown in the shape of Codemasters F1 2010 which is looking incredible.

I watched Nick have some hands on time with this at E3 and can attest to it looking amazing, the rain effects were possibly the most jaw dropping at the time but when it’s all said and done the most important part is how the game actually plays.

Let’s hope Codemasters gets that part working just as well as the graphics engine by the time they release it.

  • easy

they missed a trick with the tunnel… far too bright inside and the blinding effect when coming out is not what it should be. but all i really care about is the ‘driveability’!

hopefully the audio will be as good the real thing, and not sound like a cat farting into a tin can.

This is possibly the first game that has ever truly tricked my brain into thinking it is watching real footage, rather than graphics. Amazing

  • Felicity

    Agreed.
And they still dont get that the hairpin is a 180 degree turn of the wheel.
Stupid i guess buy it really bothers me.

  • Fox1

F1 cars use a race rack for steering and that only turns 90 degrees and not any more otherwise the driver runs the risk of snapping his wrists while turning at high speed

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

Actually if I am not wrong, the team can set that on the car, for a track such as Monte Carlo with many sharp tight corners, it could be set up to require less arm movement for the bends.

  • easy

they actually give the steering more play than less for monaco, seeing as its a relatively slow circuit.
90 degrees of turn is about the limit, any more and you have crossed arms and a facefull of barrier ;)

  • Fox1

Can’t remember exactly which season it was but during the warm up lap an Arrows got stuck at the Monte Carlo hairpin because it just did not have enough steering lock. And F1 cars also don’t have a reverse gear

  • Yats

Felicity is correct. The drivers do turn the wheel 180° for Loews in real life – some take their left hand off the wheel and steer with the right only.

@Easy – the cars do have reverse. They are just not used often. One of the drivers used them during qualifying on Saturday.

I can’t wait for this game

  • Atomic

Really worried about the “Lap 1/3″ that i see on the screen. If codemasters are sticking to their usual crappy formula where the only way you can get from 8″th place to first in 3 laps is to barge through your opponents, well, then this is shaping up to be another grid.

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

Nah Im pretty sure that this game will have modes ranging from 3 lap races with easier handling all the way to full races with all the tricky bits in place as well

  • John

I swear, some of you guys are completely out of the loop with F1. Felicity is correct. F1 cars run 540 degrees of steering, it’s even on their website.

Go watch F1 footage when a driver spins, they will use 180+ degrees to try and save it.
