Exclusive: Gears of War 2 Map DLC Blocked in RSA

This entire story with the Gears of War 2 Map Packs in South Africa have been a bit of a complete bummer for all of us.

While we can assure you that we are still hard at work with our mission to try and get map codes to all South Africans, regardless of the odds, something very interesting (and not good) has arisen.

A lot of South Africans have been buying map pack codes from various different sources so that they can all join in the flashback fun. A friend of mine (Let’s call him “Bartleby”) bought a code this weekend and was incredibly disappointed to get home and find out that the availability of the downloadable maps has come to an end.

Just like the issue that we had with the first Gears of War, our IP’s are now being blocked, meaning that they are no longer accessible to anyone in this country. We have previously posted up a very clever way to get around the restrictions but either way, it’s still not good news to hear.

Please know that we are still working on getting answers with regards to the map codes but for now we ask you to all sit tight until we can get you anymore solid information.

Thanks “Bartleby” for the tip

Couldn’t one argue that since we aren’t getting the free stuff everyone else is getting our copies should be cheaper to compensate for the lack of content?

    They are cheating us.

No because they never advertised the map packs or lancers on the boxes here…

We did look into that as well

Eh so what, we don’t need a local service…
It’s great having to pay exchange rate fees and have content blocked.
I would think this is just more proof of why MS SA should bring us a local service. Cheap b/$t/rd$!

    Sigh 🙁

This is seriously getting out of hand now!
And I get asked why I choose to buy most of my games these days on the PS3. Guess what? No restrictions!
Whilst I have not heard of any Multiplatform title’s DLC been restricted on the 360, it is something that could easily happen. That is why I choose to buy PS3 these days!

I am with you on that.
I used to recommend the 360. Well not anymore. When family and friends see I got both and ask me which one should they get I say “Get the PS3”.

Lol, well i’m over it – Rather than focusing on the maps I don’t have and playing with a bitter taste in my mouth just accept it and enjoy the rest. It sucks yes, but it’s not worth getting so upset bout.

There is what 10-20 thousand xbox owners in SA? probably makes little sense to bring the service to us and because they don’t have the service they can’t legally provide the content.

Until live is supported here there really is no point in expecting to get Live content, complaining about not getting these maps is the same as complaining that we dont have Netflix. At the end of the I’m sure by complaining on sites such as hello peter and so forth and causing such a stir ovber thesew things is only hampering the efforts of the Microsoft officials that we do have working for our cause, at the end of the day we really all just need to relax and be patient, rolling out live in SA is no where near the top of the list for Microsoft but they will get there eventualy meanwhile we should just be happy that we have access to the service at all, let alone alot of the DLC available there. So please just be happy with what you have as Microsoft could lock us out of Xbox live if they wanted to, so stop with the complaining already and let things take their course.

My problem is that we all pay our live subscriptions every year and that should entitle us to the dlc.

Maybe locking us out of live right from the beginning would be preferable. Then most of us would have rather focused on the PS3 and we woul not have had any of this irritation.

I agree, but MS promised Live when they launched the 360. It is now 2 years on, and we’re still waiting. Why sell the 360 Pro and Elite in SA if we’re not meant to use them to full capacity? If MS locks me out of Live, they can shove their console where it hurts the most. I’m already off MS products @ home, they can keep their xbox as well – bastards…

Lets face it man, MS are dangling a carrot in front of our faces and laughing at us all the way to the bank. MS don’t care, you bought their console they have your money – the end.
I wanna work for X-Box SA so I can do nothing all day too!!

You know what? I will carry on complaining! Microsoft is not doing us any favours by allowing us from SA to connect. This is a paid for service which I am paying for. They are making their money. I want my Gears DLC!
If they decide to block us from Live, which would be a really spiteful, dick move of colossal proportions, then so be it, the Xbox 360 is not the only show in town I have tickets for!

Of corse they are doing us a favour, they could easily block our ips from connecting to live altogether, payment or not, it’s a service we dont officially have access to. I can’t say that Gamefly should send me games from the US just cause im willing to pay for the service.

No that entitles you to live, within a supported area, read the TOC.

Do you really think, that a week after rolling out the NXE they have nothing to do, do you really think that leading up to the launch they sat around doing nothing? You are sadly mistaken.

I bet that you’ll sing a different song if they lock us out of Live. (That of course assuming you are on Live 😉 )

I have a 360 Elite and no NXE 😥 Guess why???

Because there is no way as yet to get the update
without Live! Name one game that has the NXE on the
    disc? 🙄

You can sing that song all you want. I am pissed off for live not being here like it should be. I pissed off because instead of steps foward to live in SA there have only been steps backwards. Fact: Live was more functional back in DEC ’06 for me then it is now! Fact: PSN was officially available to South Africans before the PS3 was even released here.
This is nothing more that a poor show on Microsofts part.

Lol, I got bigger problems – my xbox failed (only 6-months old) and now I gotta wait for SA suppliers (u know who) to get stock… which of course is taking forever – apparently I won’t get till next year – so much for holiday gaming *screams in head*
