Eurogamer head to head wrap up to date

I have always enjoyed the Eurogamer console comparisons, they have the technical backing to avoid any false claims of favouritism and word the articles as politically correct as possible to avoid fanboy accusations…

However having said that it hasn’t made a difference but you have to admire the effort.

So in the time that Eurogamer have been running the comparisons what is the current score?

A blog by the name of Muster Slimm has been kind enough to trawl the articles and come up with the final tally of

10 wins to the PS3 side
38 games related in a tie
74 games which looked better on the 360

Now since Eurogamer doesn’t always say whether something is a win or not these figures can be argued to kingdom come, however the fact that the 360 is leading the cross platform comparison isn’t.

    A very good summary.
    “Xbox 360 versus PS3 Summary

A damning victory for the Xbox 360. While the best-looking PS3 exclusives inarguably look better than the best-looking 360 exclusives, this really is a terrible indictment on the state of high-end cross-platform development. The only company that has improved across the course of these articles is Electronic Arts while Koei consistently produce equally performing titles so ‘yay’ them.”

I really don’t understand when we became such whores for graphics and visual effects. I have seen a few of the game on the list on either console and really the differences are inconsequential.

GT5P is one of the prettiest games on the market at the moment but Forza 2 is much deeper and better gaming exoperience. (Granted GT5P is a demo and FM2 a full game but I think you get the point)

It’s not about developer laziness, it’s pure cost. Getting the PS3 version to look better will cost more, so they don’t do it. They get the two versions to be comparible, but in most of these comparisions the difference is too small to notice anyway.

There have been some notable exceptions, like Orange Box for PS3 which was simply abysmal on the PS3, but more often than not, it’s the same for the layman.

Just goes to show that the reason the PS3 is known as the ‘black box’ is because it deserves to be in a plane crash.

Roland Browning, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, but there are good games on PS3 and Xbox.

Not one of the consoles deserve to be in a ‘plane crash’

By now I would think that everyone has made up their mind on which console they prefer. If someone prefers the PS3, no screenshots or technical comparisons will convince them otherwise, and that goes for those who prefer the 360. If I have a game on the 360, I really don’t care what it looks like on the PS3. That doesn’t mean I’m anti-PS3, but I just don’t care what a game looks like when I won’t be playing it. These console comparisons were relevant a couple years ago when the systems were new, but not so much anymore. Good for the Ps3 for having Blu-Ray and more technical prowess, and good for the Xbox 360 for having some games that look nicer. Whatever. /rant
