Epic wants Gears of War on the PS3

Gears of War is, without a doubt, one of the Xbox 360’s premier exclusive franchises. To be honest, it’s one of the only ones left, sat in the corner with Halo, Fable and Forza.

If Epic had its way, Gears of War would be a former Xbox 360 exclusive, but Microsoft keep convincing them to remain partnered; probably using large wads of cash, or harems of Swedish hookers.

Speaking at GDC, Epic President Mike Capps said he wants the game that launched the chainsaw gun to grace the PS3, but “time and time again” the Redmond giant gives epic “really good, compelling reasons to work with them again.” Yup, cash.

He said: “Do we wish we could take all those Killzone [players] and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say ‘Gears is awesome’? Yeah, sure I’d love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation. That would be fun. I want to be there; I want to be everywhere.” So does that mean Gears of War’s headed to the PS3? Nothing’s certain, but it’s possible. “We definitely own Gears of War. This is our franchise, our IP.”

They partner with Microsoft because : “They don’t just market it; they do amazing work and they have a user testing team that makes our games better, and so each time we’ve come to the point of ‘what do we do next?’ we’ve been happy to work with them. They help us make a better product and do some really cool marketing on the platform, so we save some money there.”

I’m pretty sure Microsoft aren’t keen to lose another exclusive to the PS3 – a la Mass Effect – so they’ll be doing their best to convince epic to keep Gears on the 360. Enjoy your Swedish hookers, Mr Capps!
