Duke Nukem Forever campaign takes 16 hours to complete

Randy Pitchford was at the Mana Bar in Brisbane over the weekend to give a public demonstration of Duke Nukem Forever and answer some questions from the awaiting fans and media.

One of the answers that surprised me was when Randy was asked how long the campaign for Duke Nukem Forever will be and he answered it as only Randy does.

According to Randy the single player campaign took him between 16 and 17 hours to complete or in other words 2-3 Call of Duties.

As humorous as the statement was I strongly doubt Randy is attempting to compare the upcoming Duke Nukem Forever with either Call of Duty Black Ops or whatever the next Call of Duty becomes.

I also find a FPS running for 16-17 hours a bit to long for my limited attention span, hopefully the story is gripping.

    Ive been out of the FPS scene for a bit, last one I played was bad company. But this will without doubt be a day 1 perchase and the game to bring me back into it. Cant wait!

    Perhaps because you have so many games to review and play?

    And maybe, deep down, most gamers don’t like games that drag on forever (that frustrated feeling does happen), but stronger than that is the idea of great imbedded value.

    It like buying a M3, knowing that you’re not actually going to use the power for which it is built, but you love it anyway. You know its just ‘there’.

    I don’t actually review any games if I can possibly avoid it… really not my thing. I think it’s more to do with a story dragging. There is a reason most Hollywood blockbusters are on 90 minutes. Most people lose concentration after that. So 4 gaming sessions at 90 minutes each is more than worth it for me

    Ja, you make good points…but I still love the idea of long game…perhaps both perspectives have merit to it…

    Fallout 3 is a very long game (albeit a RPG First person game, not a typical FPS) and I did lose concentration after a while (as you say)…but now I feel like picking it up again, where I left off.

    For me, the length matters if the dev can’t keep you’re interest for the entirity. For example, MW1 was short but it was quite gripping action wise. It was short and to the point, and IW built a great experience out of that.

    If a game is more ‘drawn-out’ narrative-wise, thats fine as long as there’s no garbage filler.

    Also, 16 hours of strippers = win.

    Yeah you got it right, our graphic designer convinced me that 3 tiers in is as far as we’re allowed :tongue:

    you mentioned Fallout which I haven’t played but I did complete Red Dead Redemption which took a long time but it’s also an incredibly detailed and informative story.

    Duke is going to be a linear experience, I love linear but not for 16 hours

    lulz, asking quite a lot from a Duke game. This game is going to be the Transformers of gaming; that is, brainless fun. And that is all we can possibly ask for.

    I don’t like it when FPS’s drag on for too long.
    That being said,this current trend of 4 hour SP campaigns that developers dish out nowadays just feel
    like a complete rip-off. The magic nr for me is about
    7-8 hours for a FPS.
    But I can see myself sitting through 16h of strippers and cheesy one-liners with his royal Dukeness :)
