Do Epic regret signing exclusivity with Microsoft? Getting There

Michael Pachter, as a side note I find it incredibly weird that an analyst has now been elevated to virtually celebrity status purely because he keeps on making asinine statements which are purely based upon his personal opinion. Anyway where was I…

Oh yeah he has been at it again and this time he is stating that Epic will most probably be regretting the fact that they signed an exclusivity deal with Microsoft as they could easily palm off another 3-4 million Gears of War copies on the PS3.

Now I personally don’t buy that, yeah they will be wondering how much they could have made on the PS3 and I have no doubt that they would have sold another 3-4 million copies on the PS3 but at the same time Gears of War was made famous with the help of Microsoft and it is possible that the game wouldn’t have been so popular if it was multiplatform.

Either way the only regret I can see Epic really having is that same regret you get when you want to sell your car for R5000 and someone asks how much you want for your car, and when you say R5000 they agree instantly… and you just know you could have gotten more than that.

Exclisives on the XBOX just sell so much more, and this is to do with the Marketing of Microsoft which is much better than Son, so If i have a new unproved Franchise
I will team up with Micorsoft to get it up and running, and then later on move to other consoles as well.

If I remember then COD 2 was also excliusive on XBOX, and was well recieved, and afterwards COD3 was release on all the systems to grow the brand and today is is massive. So a argument could be made for where to launch when you want to get the most exposure. I think games like Uncharted could have had massive following on Xbox 360 as well.

    • Bobby Kotick reloads his shotgun with his teeth

and I raise you… Modern Warfare 2. Exclusives on the box or the PS3 do not necessarily sell more.

      • Fox1

Anything Halo seems to disagree

      • ewie

Like i said originaly it was released just on one console to get the exposure – and afterward the series went multi , with big sucess as well.

        • Bobby Kotick is eyeing your mom

Perhaps, if you include PCs (where CoD actually came from). I personally don’t have a preference when it comes to exclusives or multiplatforms since I own both consoles.

I did it for Geoff, %$&!! , damn spell checker, must have been the Na’vi version.

Also With gears epic get a change to showcase the
capabilities of Unreal, and they most likely get a
lot of money out of the licensing of unreal because they can showcase it with a game like Gears Exclusively.

  • http://www.designwave.co.za Nick de Bruyne

I’m all for multiplatform but if a game just HAS to be exclusive, they should keep it exclusive for a year or something, like Bioshock did.

    • easy

totally… and i think most people would agree with you. unfortunately it’s not the consumers that actually have a say or even matter ultimately.
collusion only benefits the receivers of our hard earned cash, and that will never change.

  • Bobby Kotick wears a man thong

He might not be too far of the mark. When Epic signed the exclusivity, the PS3 had yet to be released, however 4 years later, and with the gap between xbox sales and PS3 narrowing to a mere 6 million, and Europe and Japan (and presumably South Africa as well, if Ster Kinekor’s numbers are correct) being PS3 territories, it would be in Epic’s best interest to expand.

Gears exclusivity is most likely contract bound (first two or three games), but there has to be a time limit to it, so I wouldn’t be surprised, if after the trilogy has run its course on the xbox, Epic will be releasing titles for both consoles.

Unless of course, Epic gets incorporated under the Microsoft brand, which if I was Microsoft would make a lot more sense.
