Destiny’s DLC isn’t on the disc

Yesterday we told you of the bug that revealed much of the future content coming to Bungie’s great big moo-esque shooter Destiny. It very much seemed to be more of the same, but more importantly, it seemed to show that the extra content was on-disc DLC (or as the case may be, hiding in the game’s installation on your console’s hard drive). That’s not the case, says Bungie.

Speaking on the game’s official forums, David “Deej” Dague responded to the rallying cries about the horrors and injustices of locked, paid-for, on-disc content.

“We noticed that you noticed that we already have plans for upcoming content packs in Destiny,” he began. “We do! They have activity names (which may or may not change) and we have a really good idea what they’re going to contain. They even have placeholder nodes in the Director, as you’ve already discovered.”

None of the expansions are quite finished yet, according to Dague.

“People at Bungie are hard at work to complete content for our first post launch pack, ‘The Dark Below,’ as I type these words. It will be finished soon. It releases in December. Soon, we’ll detail it out for you so you can see exactly what we’ve been working on.”

This is not at all unusual. Studios usually have the extra content mapped out well in advance – but that doesn’t mean it’s on the disc ready to play, waiting for your credit card details before it becomes available.

Destiny, as you’ll know, is a game about potential. And if you’re purchased the vanilla edition of the game want the extra content, that will potentially cost you $35 on top of what you’ve already paid.

Or it will cost you far less if you bought the limited edition (Ltd edition cost an extra R150 and comes with a season pass, which grants you access to the DLC).

Honestly, I’m still really enjoying this game. Yes it has its flaws and foibles, but it keeps me coming back everyday… And that’s what counts. I can’t wait for the story DLC.

I am also interested to see how they change their story missions after the whole world told them that they are all the same….. I’m sure they would have changed the formula, just hope they keep it as fun as the game is now!!

The first DLC contains Mercury, so the Planets will be expanding. Almost level 29 now, just need a gazillion more Ascendant Shards. My craptarch is level 29 and the Vanguard chick is 6. Hoping for the update to come through this week that will guarantee purple is purple or better and blue is blue or better. Online ID is Zuat. Normally with Skoldzer and Forfcuksakes. Finally someone with a brain lol I could not agree more, it is not the greatest game ever but it has been a while since a game made me keep on coming back every single day for a few hours and playing it’s sooo much fun especially if you start raiding and doing more difficult challenges.

Sotry DLC new raid and strikes bring it on and new gear of course:)))

Bought the Limited edition and will get the first two packs for mahala?! Or that is what my mind tells me, either way I am still playing 1-3 hours every day and that hasn’t happened in years with one game!!
So if they can bring me new places to go and shoot Aliens at I will be more than happy!!

Exactly! And if they can add new areas (I mean, the planets are kinda large – surely new areas are on the cards down the line?!), that would be so full of WINNING! 🙂

Grief, I was stuck on Level 22 for the longest time ever – just no decent armour pick-ups! Then this weekend, went from Level 22 on Friday night to Level 27 by Sunday morning… I kicked some serious ass this weekend, if I do say so myself. 😉 🙂 So chuffed!

What were you mostly playing to level up that fast?
          Crucible, strikes, weekly, nightfall?

I was bitterly disappointed I did not get enough strange coins to buy the Suros auto rifle from Xur last weekend.

Yeah, I woulda loved that auto-rifle (even came across a Guardian who did buy it – sounded amazing and seemed to do uber damage).

With regards to my leveling, I actually teamed up with a guy I met and we did a TON of Queens bounties (which gave us Legendary gear as a reward), Strikes and the dailies. Then I was able to afford the exotic helmet from Xur and my Monarchy level finally reached the point where I could buy Legendary gear – went from Rare armour only to only Exotic or Legendary (hence the quick leveling). Now if I can only find a nice Legendary weapon…

Yes; those who purchased the limited or digital guardian (or higher) versions already have an expansion pass. those who bought the vanilla version, however, will have to pay up. Edited for clarity.
