Team Ninja have been chatting to videogamer.com and have come out and promised that they won’t be released any new characters via DLC as they feel that this makes fighting games unfair and that it’s hard enough to balance the roster without DLC characters being brought into the discussion.
In a direct dig at Capcom and their Street Fighter franchise milking the Team Ninja developer stated
We feel like this is a kind of sport, and you don’t change the rules for sports. Everybody plays by the same rules. You don’t have a 14-player soccer game versus an 11-player soccer game. That’s just not fair.
It’s a similar thing to if certain people have all these characters and others don’t. It makes it an unfair game, and we don’t think that’s the right way to go for fighting games.
We have no plans to sell characters as downloadable content.
I have personally always preferred the Dead or Alive series but I’m not foolish enough to think that it’s a more professional title than Street Fighter so his assertion that Dead or Alive is like a sport and that Street Fighter is unbalanced is quite the statement.
But I for one am glad they aren’t going to be attempting to sell more characters for DOA5 after its release.
Oh and I saw a new Dead or Alive video today as well that was released a while back but it’s new to me, it showcases the stage Hot Zone and does a great job of showing the interactive stages in Dead or Alive as well as the overly sexualised characters. I mean why is Christie wearing a thong over her catsuit and why isn’t it zipped up.. and why is she wearing lacy lingerie to a fight. It makes no sense
If booth babes do end up getting banned and only cosplayers are allowed as marketers I can see the Team Ninja development team celebrating.
