Dark Souls 2 is going to be more ‘understandable’

DArkSouls

I see you Dark Souls fans out there. You’re cautiously optimistic about the news of a brand spankin’ new sequel. After all, if Dark Souls could consume so much of your life when it first arrived, how much more of your essence could a sequel suck out? And you know what? I understand what you’re feeling. And so does Dark Souls 2. Now show us on this action figure where the Capra demon eviscerated you…

Speaking to Edge via Shacknews, co-director Tomohiro Shibuya said that while the game would be blunter in its approach, the core appeal of the legendary difficulty for that title would be retained;

I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle. [Dark Souls 2] will be more straightforward and more understandable.

This could be both good and bad. On one hand, you have the opportunity to draw in some new fans, while on the other bloody stump that was once home to your second hand, you’re going to piss off the hardcore players.

The original Dark Souls was pretty much a trial and error type of game, but could a change in gameplay to make certain facets of the game less obtuse, be a bad thing? After all, you can do that, and retain the feeling of depth and danger.
