Dante's Inferno Arriving With Mixed Reviews

Thanks to all of EA’s marketing stunts that include crazy sin-based promo items involving cheques for lots of money and expensive superbowl advertising fiascos, you have most probably already heard of Dante’s Inferno.

The biggest thing that I have heard about the game through and through is that the game is a blatant, unashamed rip-off of God of War, in every way.

Well reviews are starting to pop up from all over and it’s not looking too good for poor ol’ Dante.

A quick look at Metacritic already has the game listed as having an average score of 75/100 for Xbox 360 and 78/100 for Playstation 3, which isn’t exactly going to make Kratos shake in his boots.

IGN UK have summarized the whole thing up pretty well, saying:

Ultimately, our issue is simple – if you’re going to shamelessly riff on a formula popularised and pretty much perfected by another massive game title – yes, God of War in this instance – you better be damn sure you do it better. And, sadly, aside from its excellent combat system, Dante’s Inferno misses the mark in almost every way.

In my opinion, if you are looking for something that offers something of a God of War experience while you wait for the real thing, go for Darksiders instead (my review here).

I’m with you on that. There are just too many good games – and why play a clone of a game in an epic franchise, when you could just play the next game in said franchise?

I don’t understand why poeple mock games for being too like another.

Its like moking someone for looking like Jessica Alba.

Watched the movie and played it abit.
So far… I really like it.

Maybe that was your problem. Ninja Gaiden is no hack n slash, that game DEMANDS your attention. I see games like this and GOW different to Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta, the Japanese ones are more hardcore.

Even Bayonetta was tons easier than NG. But yeah – the “western” ones are a lot more forgiving.

Luckily for me i could like mod my ninja gaiden 2 save game so that i had like almost unlimited health.. But still in the later/closing stages… one would be thunderstruck to see what one must do just to complete that impossible game :pirate:

If reviews could say that each new game is a ripoff of the first one ever made then I suppose everything would get low scores? Its all a matter of opinion and my opinion is that Lucifer will get his arse whooped over the weekend by Dante.

Reviewers are totally full of sh#t these days, in any way. Well, it’s been so for quite some time now and it’s sad that these so called gaming journalists, who get their bloody games for free, keep on bitching about this game being a rip off of this and that game being a rip off of that. It’s like saying all bands formed from 1970 onwards are crap because they were too heavily influenced by The Beatles. Absolutely ridiculous.

I concur… Some games just take a recipe from game X, and perfect it and make it something better we wanted all along from game X.

I have not yet played the game, but I was told from a reviewer who had also just played through the new God of War 1 + 2 collection that the game is ridiculously similar, right down to the exact same tutorials.

Inspiration is one thing, but cloning and painting on a different face is another. I haven’t played it yet, so I can’t know for sure, just passing on what I have been told

Well, if it is “ridiculously similar” to GOW 1 & 2 with a fair amount of blood, gore and tits, then it must be fucking great!
