CryEngine 3 sure is pretty

Man, I love this picture.

Crytek, the graphics-focused game developer is pretty pleased with its new CryEngine – believing it not only goes head to head with, put surpasses Epic’s Unreal Engine 4. We’ll only really be able to tell which is the superior engine once games that utilise them start coming out, but until then, we can ogle at videos showing off each engines features. Today, we take a look at CryEngine 3.

“We have been presenting CryENGINE 3 as next-gen ready technology since GDC 2010. And we think that Unreal Engine 4 has done a good job to catch up, but nothing is there that surprised us and we still believe CryENGINE 3 remains the benchmark,” Crytek Boss Cevat Yerli said in an interview with VG247.

Take a gander at this CryEngine 3 tech demo and let us know if you agree with Yerli. Crysis 3, utilising CryEngine 3, will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2013.

I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
