COD:WAW tops the UK Charts – Resistance 2 comes in at 10

The latest sales charts in from the UK have some interesting stories to tell.

Call of Duty 5 is proving that the public doesn’t really care who is developing the game and whether or not it is based in World War 2 again. The game appeals to many people and is accessible enough that a lot of consumers are all too happy to pick it up and give it a go.

In the same vein, I am not too happy about the fact the Need for Speed: Undercover is sitting in second place. The fact that the game is still getting good sales is only going to let EA know more than ever that they can take huge shortcuts and make a really low quality game and still get away with massive sales due to a recognisable brand.

What is really interesting is that Resistance 2, the supposedly almighty PS3 exclusive is only sitting at number 10. Why is that?

Well, I was actually very interested to find out that Resistance 2 had only been on sale for a day when the chart was released, which means that the day one sales were probably looking pretty strong. It seems that the UK is also experiencing distribution issues so that may factor into the charts as well.

It is interesting to see that so many other recent popular titles are not in the top 10 although it was interesting to see that even though it is so far down the line, Mario Kart Wii is sitting at a very respectable 4th place.

  1. So, for how long has it been out now in the UK?

Maybe it is too expensive, like here in SA.

Still, games like COD WOW , GEARS, LEFT 4 DEAD , all had very decent first day sales, somehow I think people in the UK pleased both R1 and COD 4 and based on it are buying the better FPS of the 2. R1 only had decent sales because it was the only FPS available on the PS3 at time of launch in Europe.

The majority of those games are multi-platform, whereas Resistance 2 is exclusive (to a console with the smallest install base of the current gen consoles?) so unless I am wrong, the numbers make sense.

    No not at all.

that would be like saying Halo only had a 12 Million install base and would sell only 300 000 in the first week.

Resistance should have sold a lot more.
To sell less in it first week than cod wow on ps3 in its 3rd week just does not compute

Why is anyone so surprised that Resistance 2 only made it to number 10? The PS3 is the world’s most expensive door stop. The only game that will be worse than Resistance 2….is Resistance 3!

You guys seem to be missing the boat. Resistance 2 is at number 10 after one days sale that means it had 6 days less of sales than the other games. To me thats quite a good rate of sale

True. I was just wondering right now, where is Gears2? Thought it would stay in the charts longer.

Lol seems to be some xbots around today 🙄
R2 made it to number 10 after 1 day, If you saying these sales are bad then think a little about the xbox exclusives?
And besides its already been decided that R2 is better than Geow2!

I read somewhere that many of the major stores also had no stock because one of the major games distributors in the UK went belly-up.

I agree with the rest of your comment but this made me laugh. Where does these secret meetings take place to decide these things? I’d like to sit in on one of them.
