Codemasters’ new game is a lot like their old games

Racing game purveyor Codemasters has been teasing something new of late, and job listing have hinted that the company’s been working on something “exciting new IP for digital and console platforms.” That exciting new IP may yet be coming, because it’s newest game isn’t all that new, nor exciting, if we’re perfectly honest. It’s more GRID.

Called GRID: Autosport, the latest title in the franchise is apparently headed to the PC and those terrible old systems I don’t want to play games on anymore because I’m an elitist jerk and they make me want to puke. Hopefully the official announcement adds in a dash of next-gen. The official announcement will be coming later today, but the information’s all been leaked ahead of schedule.

GRID: Autosport promises to offer “the largest amount of content” in the series to date. It’ll give players 100 different courses from 22 locations to drive through, and numerous real-world vehicles to play around in – including super cars and prototypes.

It sounds like it’ll have quite a robust and fulfilling career mode for petrolheads. Players go from being amateurs to professional racers with teammates, sponsorships and all of the things you expect from a modern racer.

Interestingly, it’s apparently out quite soon. According to the internet it’s out on June 27 in Europe which is a Friday, and means that it’ll likely be released three days prior in North America. Here are some screens for your eyeballing pleasure, via Brasilgamer.

They should make a next gen toca racing game made I loved playing 1, 2 and 3 when I was a kid I am sure a next gen version will be very pleasant.

Agreed! However, the internet informed me that a new TOCA is not in development. Nor are there any plans on creating another TOCA currently. This was many moons ago though, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Yeah I heard about that, it’s probably because the Grid games are doing so well

Considering that GRID 1 is 6 years old now and still costs $15 on steam, I would imagine so.

            Costs R40 at BT though.

            April 22, 2014 at 10:19

I always forget about BT. No store close to me. And have never enjoyed their online services. But who knows… might look there again.

            April 22, 2014 at 10:22

I also keep forgetting about them myself. I just want to know why they can stock a game for R40 or R50 and then it’s over R150 on Steam. That’s kind of proof that developers care nothing about the “reduced costs” for going full digital.

          • Axon1988

            April 22, 2014 at 10:27

I would guess it’s surplus stock in BT’s case. With the digital market, there are some companies that do actually take a more active role in pricing structures. Mostly small indie guys who push a sale or free weekend on steam to promote the game. But with large companies like Codemaster’s, I think they just don’t care any more. OLD game, keep it at a premium price.

            April 22, 2014 at 10:29

It’s actually those “classics” series at BT, so it’s technically newer stock, which probably explains what you said. Codemasters really just doesn’t care.

            April 22, 2014 at 10:32

Ah I was wondering about that. Yeah I guess so. Why would they care about an older game they are not supporting any more. I think one of the biggest things about modern game companies that they lack is active communication with present clients. They just make things up as they go. For instance, the whole zombie simulation thing was quite big a year ago. How many zombie games have come out since? But we as clients ask for more space games or more directly a new dungeon keeper. And what do we get? Stupid android / apple game that REALLY blows.

Ah man. I couldn’t agree more. That’s why I personally have been enjoying indie games lately. The bigger the companies get the less they seem to care about their actual customers.

Specially in Africa. Luckily all the Software entertainment companies in Africa that I know about are all Indie. (Not including Gambling companies here)

It’s all about that personal touch. We all as humans love being communicated with directly.

That’s why there are “support managers” because we love knowing that our issue is getting escalated to someone higher up the corporate chain.

Racing is boring, I’d be far more interested if they made a Deathtrack game that looks like this. pew pew + vroom vroom = win!

Looks pretty though, amazing visuals these next-gen consoles push out.

Bug Masters. Copy and paste same game breaking bugs for the annual release of F1.

You can own a PS7 and it will have the same bugs as the PS3 version.

I stopped after the 2010 save glitch.

Everybody knows, mainly oldschool, that when one plays an RPG, lets say Skyrim. everybody knows that you have at least 5 save files that overlap each other during the 200hour game.

Then PVP came along and they prevented cheating by allowing only one save file that cannot be backed up or copied. I heard that some people figured a way around to save the data to the PC incase the power went out while the game was saving on their New Game plus 7.

Not taking that chance again. THANKS PVP.

Yip, I’ve had corrupted save games, it sucks. I lost 2 double playthroughs of ME1 & 2 just before ME3 came out because of a crashed HDD – I was more upset about that than the other data I lost. I nearly cried lol. Now I use gamesave manager to backup all my saves to the magical cloud.
