The final Call of Duty: Ghosts map pack was recently released and I’ve been giving it a run through recently to see what it is all about. Is it a worthy finale or have Infinity Ward left the worst of the bunch for last?

Invasion is broken into 4 different maps, well 3 new and 1 repurposed, and a new game mode for Extinction.

So let’s do a quickie review on each one

Pharaoh

Judging by the number of times this one appeared to come up in the playlist I’d say Pharaoh is possibly the most popular of all the new maps. Set amongst some Egyptian ruins Pharaoh offers some nice small room opportunities as well as some good long site lines for sniping.

However no one seems to use any of those and all the action centres around the obelisk in the middle and campers in little nooks and crannies.

It’s an okay map but I don’t feel it really offers much new to the game.

Departed

Next up we have Departed which takes place in a Mexican town during the celebrations of the Day of the Dead. The music and ambience of this level keep it entertaining and the bright colours interspersed with skulls really gives me a desire to go to Mexico.

There doesn’t appear to be a main central point of battle on this level, the market see’s probably the most but I feel it is fair to say the action takes place all over this relatively large level.

It is probably my favourite level of the lot and the addition of the dual wielding Mexican perk makes for some entertaining scenarios.

Mutiny

Mutiny has the best level lay out with tons of opportunities to lie in wait for the enemy or to take up solid positions to defend your corner of the map.

Taking place over 3 levels with the massive boat in the middle drawing players towards it while keeping the action interspersed.

I may be the odd one out as this level doesn’t come up nearly as often as I would have liked. The only thing that takes this level down in my books is the colour scheme is definitely a bit boring and could have used some more excitement in places.

Favela

The last map is a fan favourite from Modern Warfare 2, Favela. You will quickly remember this map when you start playing and it is still one of the better maps that have existed in Call of Duty.

Unfortunately the better players know exactly where to camp on this map which does push it down a bit but for a fun run and gun map Favela is still up there with the best.

The DLC is wrapped up with Extinction: Episode 3 but as always I’ve said I’m not a fan of Extinction and as such I simply don’t include these parts in the review.

If you’re an Extinction fan then I’m sure you will be pleased at the idea of the story being wrapped up but for some reason I just never got into this.

Conclusion

In my opinion this is the weakest of all the map packs that we have seen. While Mutiny and Departed are good, if not great, levels I feel Pharaoh is definitely missing something to make it really interesting. Favela is a direct copy from Modern Warfare 2 so while it is fun it really is just a copy and paste which can’t justify being charged for.

Last night I jumped on for the last time before writing the review and simply couldn’t get a game in the Invasion play list with only 2300 people in the world in the list.

In the end Infinity Ward have left the worst for last and I can’t recommend you rush out and pay good money for this now.

CoD Ghosts: Invasion
Some good levels mixed with an average one and one that's a copy and paste level. Simply not worth the money

Here’s hoping the new COD is a breath of fresh air. Because it’s really starting to smell.

I didn’t think it was the final, as the map packs were spelling the word “ODIN”. Did this mean no “N”?
