Squads
Squads is a huge new addition to the Call of Duty franchise where you can create squads of customised players and set their load-outs before heading into battle. You will play as one soldier, while the rest of the squad will take their cues from the load-outs you’ve granted them and battle apropos against another squad.
So if you think the best idea is to arm all your guys with snipers then they will all hang back and go for the headshots;if you arm them all with nothing but combat knives then you are a total bastard and just want to watch your people die.
The most exciting thing about this however is not that you can now prep your squads to take on other players setups but rather that you can now play Call of Duty with really intelligent bots.
In Squad vs Squad or Wargame you can load out your squads and then jump right into a game against a fully armed squad that will do its very best to match your ability. I gave it a few goes and while I’m not an exceptional Call of Duty player, I can hold my own. The opposing squads really did put me through my paces though, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
One aspect of the Squads mode that destroyed me was Safeguard. Again it’s another wave based mode where you start with nothing other than a handgun and a random kill-streak drop and you need to defend yourself against a horde of mercenaries.
As you can see from the video below… I totally totally sucked at this mode. I can’t wait to regain some of my manhood by trying this again because this is frankly just embarrassing.
And now for the main course.
Multiplayer
The single biggest change in this years Call of Duty is that you can now customise your soldier; and yes since I was so addicted to this game capture device I captured how to customise their load-outs, perks and strike packages… and completely forgot the actual soldier customisation part.. yeah genius.
As you can see from the video above the load-outs have changed quite a bit but the biggest change comes in how perks work now with a new point system. Perks are broken down over 7 different categories; Speed, Handling, Stealth, Awareness, Resistance, Equipment and Elite with 5 different perks per line.
Each perk is worth a certain amount of points you’re afforded a total of 8 points t customise your soldier.
Once you have kitted yourself out it’s time to head into battle – and you’ll quickly find the game to be more fluid than before with the silly dolphin dive now being replaced with an awesome knee slide and a new ability added that enables you to mantle over small walls keeping the game fast and exciting.
After that the gameplay is as expected with nothing fundamentally changing, it’s the same old Call of Duty you know and love but with an extra layer of polish that makes it all much better. Along with that comes a whole new range of game modes, some of which have instantly become favourites.
Cranked is a straight-up death match, but when you get a kill you get a boost in speed and power with the downside being that you need to kill another person in 30 seconds or you’ll explode. This makes for immensely exciting games and this is something I am hoping to see enter league play – mostly to get rid of campers.
Blitz is a run-and-gun game where the object is to get to the goal and score a point by running through a portal without getting killed – all while stopping the opposition from scoring. It’s a fun, faster-paced capture-the-flag, but I’m not sure it’s going to catch on.
Infected is hugely annoying. You all start off and then one player is randomly chosen to be infected. The infected is then tasked with turning the other players while the humans try to simply survive with their shotguns against the infected and their blades.
Hunted hunted is easily my favourite new mode. All players start off with pistols and can only upgrade by picking random weapons from care package drops; which just happen to also be perfect kill zones for anyone with a decent weapon. The game’s quick, hugely enjoyable and is great at levelling the playing field between adequate and good players.
I used some more of my direct feed magic to showcase me owning in Hunted:
So yeah owning is a bit of a stretch since we lost.. But hey I topped the leaderboard. That counts for something, right?
The last big change that I noticed was that they have infinitely improved Search and Rescue by changing it from a one-death-and-you-are-out experience, to a kill-confirmed style which devitalises long range snipers to some extent and makes the game just that much more tactical.
And yes we have more footage. It’s not me playing this time though.
The only other thing left to say really is that the new class added between assault and sniper, Marksman, is brilliant and a great addition to the armoury. It makes the assault a more short-to-medium weapon range load-out, with the marksmen now taking the medium to long and leaving snipers as snipers.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is nothing ground breaking but it is a solid improvement over the already excellent Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Oh and Riley? I felt Riley was a nice addition but this garbage about being emotionally invested in the animal is just that, garbage. He should never have been used as a marketing tool – because that’s frankly all he was.

Call of Duty: Ghosts | |
Call of Duty: Ghosts is a great new addition to the franchise but it is definitely showing its age now. Far too many invisible walls and glitches in the single player campaign show a lack of due care and attention which I didn't expect from Infinity Ward. The multiplayer experience more than makes up for it though.

I cannot express the rage I feel with this console-like matching crap. It really cannot be that difficult to cater for PC users like we used to have – you know, back when FPS’s were new and shiny and pushing boundaries – like a server browser; locally hosted ranked servers, etc.

Call of Duty Ghosts? Is this Ghost Recon or Call of Duty now? Saw a review on Kotaku and the first sentence was.
“Three men huddle around a campfire, eager to hear the story of an elite force of highly-feared soldiers. Ghosts, they’re called”

black ops 2 is excellent? For those who played from the beginning….black ops is only for the ADd gamer style…..COD lost the openness to their maps and you can’t really play many other ways than run and gun……im a long time lover of cod but after black ops, they are losing me
sad
November 7, 2013 at 02:44
The worst call of duty I have played to this point. I would like to know who is reviewing these games seriously if you can’t tell what a good game is then you have no right to be rating games in the first place. This version of cod is just like black ops 2 just throw some new maps on it and call it ghost. The weapons are prettt much the same, hit system is shitty along with alot of lucky one shot kills the graphics do not look impressive at all to me. I’m tired of people rating these games when all you do is hype these type of games up to such a level that is bull shit! So you can make a quick dollar off your lies. I’m so close to being done with the cod series the only reason I still have alittle faith is because I hope that you will be smart enough to make a cod similar to mw3. Overall I wouldn’t even rate this game a 4.
