I’m excited for Watch Dogs the upcoming open world hacking game from Ubisoft. We have some brand new screenshots showcasing some of the size and details of the game. We’ve got a tonne more information on the game coming up later.
I think the one that really interests me is the weird street view one with the colour gradients, being a hacking game I can only presume this is something to do with Wi-Fi signal strength.
Another interesting thing is the grid over the water which looks like a development shot working on real water physics.
The beautiful cityscapes hint at a really large and detailed world to explore with day and night cycles but how that will all come together is still a mystery and I guess we’ll have to wait for those review embargoes to drop before we can see if Watch Dogs is really going to live up to its promise or not.

This game looks pretty… just lost all hype for it… maybe I’ll be hyped again closer to release… in 2020.

Hopefully they are not shopped, but this is advertising after all, so I reckon they have been tweaked a bit in photoshop.

Ho-ly shit. Are you telling me theyre actually fabricating a solid weather system? The fidelity of the ocean shot is just as insane. This game must just come now.

@gavin that looks like a wind shear map IMO. They mention in the bumpf theres going to be “real” weather systems. My assumption was just shitty time of day changes, perhaps a few rain variables. This on the other hand looks like a point physx endeavour. If so, and if im not mistaken, i think itll be the first game to have a fully functioning realtime weather system.

wind shear… wow that would be awesome

Im not quite sure what kind of effect they will use it to or if there’ll be gaming mechanics hinged on the system, but either way, we’re in for a good ride.

He is right, I watched a video earlier today from early April called something like Watchdogs wind, rain, water or something like that and it actually showed off the wind simulation system they have in place, and from up high you can actually see how the wind makes its way through the buildings and veers off into smaller alleys and weakens while channeling through more bigger streets and building creating stronger currents. Pretty cool actually.

Fuck me, I couldn’t even properly calculate wind on a roof while I was still studying. Creating a wind shear map for video game sound quite hectic.

Hey Gavin, I believe the weird street view with the color gradients ain’t the wifi strength, but the wind simulation, that’s a selling point and another reason to call for an 8 core cpu.

The water physics seemed well done in AC4 too, maybe its the same system with tweaks.
