Black Ops II’s getting dedicated servers

PC gamers have largely migrated away from Call of Duty – quite possibly for a number of reasons. Not least of those reasons is the lack of real dedicated servers. Modern Warfare 3 had ‘em, but only for unranked matches. Seems they’ll be back for Black Ops 2.

Treyarch’s director of technology Cesar Stastny recently tweeted, "Confirmed: Ranked Dedicated Servers for #BlackOps2."

Woah there, console gamers  Before you get excited, thinking that you’ll avoid having to play with lag compensation your PS3 or Xbox 360, note that this announcement pertains to the PC version only – though they might end up pulling a Battlefield and adding console servers later.

What do you think, PC gamers? Ranked dedicated servers enough to renew your interest in Call of Duty? though I don’t really enjoy playing multiplayer all that much, I must admit that Black Ops  II’s getting me interested.

Treyarch may have burned its own good name with the terribly rushed Call of Duty 3 – but since then I’ve found them the more intriguing of the cycled Call of Duty developers. While Infinity Ward struck gold with the first Modern Warfare, really invigorating Call of Duty, everything they’ve done since has just been a rehash, while Treyarch’s attempted something new with each of their games.
