[Beneath here be spoilers]

You know how in Mass Effect 2 you could import your character from the first game, bringing with it some extra cash, some resources, a level or two – and all your moral choices?

Notice how in the loading screens for Mass Effect 2, it says that you’ll be able to export your character to the last game in the current Mass Effect trilogy? that may not necessarily be the case, according to Bioware.

[Final Spoiler Alert!]

If your Shepard end the second game pushing up space daisies, you won’t be able to resurrect him or her for the final game.

“Dead is dead. Mass Effect 3, as with the rest of the trilogy, is Shepard’s story. If you have a dead Shepard at the end of Mass Effect 2, that saved game won’t import into Mass Effect 3,” he said.

“You can play Mass Effect 3 if you died in Mass Effect 2 of course, but you’ll have to create a new Shepard. Harsh? Yes. But we wouldn’t be serious about the concept of a suicide mission if you couldn’t die and your death didn’t have serious consequences.”

There you go – if you’ve finished the game, and it resulted in your protagonist kicking the bucket, you may wish to reload a save and do things a little differently. Or not. It’s your game, with your Shepard, and your choices.

I actually had no idea that Shepard could die in the final mission, and still have the story continue.

    “Dead is dead.”

Did anybody else get passed the begging of the game where they resurrected Shepard?

Really makes no sense to me.
