DICE has announced that the Battlefield 4 Second Assault expansion will be released on February 18th for all Battlefield 4 Premium members on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, via a post on their official blog. Battlefield 4 players without the Premium package will be able to purchase the content on March 4th.
The Second Assault package originally launched as a timed exclusive for Xbox One in November, and ever since EA decided to halt the release of any DLC until the major bugs were fixed, players on all other platforms have been pining for the new content to arrive.
Fans of Battlefield 3 will benefit most from Second Assault, as it brings four popular maps from the previous title to Battlefield 4’s library: Operation Metro, Caspian Border, Gulf of Oman, and Operation Firestorm. Each of the maps has been redesigned to take advantage of the Frostbite 3 engine and to offer its own “Levolution” event.
Along with the maps, this expansion brings five more weapons, the Dune Buggy vehicle, a Capture the Flag mode, and ten new assignments with new unlocks. All told, it’s a pretty significant amount of content that only Xbox One Premium members have had access to thus far. Check out the Battlefield 4 Blog for all the details.
Battlefield 4 has sure enjoyed a rocky road thus far. It was seemingly rushed to hit the release dates of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, and has suffered from debilitating bugs ever since. For many users, though, the rough coating has been scraped off (finally) and the outstanding multiplayer experience underneath has been revealed. If you’ve been waiting for the game to settle into a more stable state, the Second Assault expansion release event may be a good time to finally dive in.
