I do not have a lot of love for Army of Two. The first two games were mindless, vapid shooters built to appeal to Michael Bay-loving gun-crazy “dudebro’s” for when they’re not busy playing Call of Duty or Halo. I will, however, sheepishly admit that I did have some fun playing the game co-operatively while laughing about the overtly cheesy dialogue and premise.

That, I suppose, is why I was so surprised by the sequel, Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, reveal at Gamescom last year. It looks like they’ve taken that same stupid premise, only built a genuinely fun and polished action experience around it. And I’m actually bloody well looking forward to it. Mostly because I’m impressed it wasn’t called 4rmy of Four. Or something.

While those games were developed by EA’s internal Montreal Studio, The Devil’s Cartel is being handled by Dead Space developer Visceral Games – so you can be pretty damned sure the action will be good. The previous games were also powered by Unreal Engine 3, while this new one uses EA’s very favourite engine in the whole entire world, DICE’s Frostbite 2.0.

Here’s the game’s latest trailer titled Overkill – in which you’ll see Alpha and Bravo, two operatives from Tactical Worldwide Operations (TWO! HAH!) working for a private military company dropped off in the middle of what must be a most explosive drug war; something to make even Pablo Escobar say “Holy sheeet!”

Game’s coming to Xbox and PS3 at the end of March.
