I noticed this morning when trying to log in to www.xbox.com that it was down for maintenance, something that wasn’t advertised anywhere and doesn’t appear on Major Nelson’s blog. When opening xbox.com, it generally reads your IP address and directs you to your localised Xbox site. On a whim, I tried specifically going to the US and UK xbox.com sites and they’re fully functional. This begs the question; are we finally getting Xbox live?

People have also recently noticed that downloading items from Xbox Live Marketplace has been markedly quicker, leading to much supposition and conjecture – Is this the result of a local Limelight Content Distribution Network, an upgrade to Telkom’s infrastructure, the recently landed Seacom cable or could it be a portent of South Africans finally being recognised as legitimate Xbox Live users?

Logging on to the ZA specific Xbox site loads normally, which throws a bit of a cog in the rumour mill – but we’ve gotta have a bit of hope, right?

Yeah, normally the local site is rubbish – has been forever.
Going to plain Xbox.com (without any region qualifiers) from within South Africa at the moment results in a “Xbox.com is down for maintenance” screen – which is unusual.

Lets be realistic here, even IF Xbox live does come to SA. How the hell are we going to migrate our UK/SA accounts across to the SA server????

I wouldn’t,the US marketplace is my source for all my Rock Band content and the SA marketplace won’t any due to the game not being available here.
Lots of people will keep using their US/UK accounts and most probably only use an SA account for mature rated content.

Well the SA market place will have nothing good to offer really. Wonder if the games will run faster then if playing against US/UK servers then
