Apple Announces the iPad – It’s quite the monster

iPad

Apple last night announced the long awaited iPad, Apple’s first major foray into the table PC market and it already looks untouchable. The thing is beautiful and seeing as though it can run every application on the iStore natively it already has a gargantuam amount of applications ready for launch.

It’s going to cost $499 (US) and the most important thing is that it’s going to play games as well. So how does this latest entrant into the game market stack up in size compared to the rest.

Well Kotaku has put together a graph and I have to say the thing looks huge, it may only weigh 680 grams but it’s not going to replace your DSi anytime soon. It does have the opportunity of replacing my severely aging laptop though, especially if I can plug a real keyboard into it somehow for when I am working at the office.

We don’t know when the iPad is going to leave American shores but if you really feel up to it you should be able to import one now as Apple has stated that the iPad will not be locked onto any GSM network when it comes up for sale.

i really want it, but not entirely sure why. its one of those weird products that doesn’t really fit anywhere, its not full blown computer, its not a dedicated gaming platform, its not a proper phone… what the hell is it?

but just thinking about the possibilities makes me want it. playing chess or maybe a ruse styled rts could be fun.

will wait for while before splashing out R15k (gestimate) on one.

    no flash 10.1
    no camera
typing on flat surface is fail!
    1GHZ processor is too lame
    no external storage!
    excellent screen though

This device is just a giant ipod

flash sucks, plus html5 will make flash obsolete
      lack of camera is odd
touch screens are the future, get used to it
1ghz cpu is nothing to sniff at on a mobile device
why would you want external storage?

the apps will make or break this product. will take the wait and see approach

Can only run one app at a time, no multitasking – and games… don’t expect to play anything more than a build for iPad glorified flash game.

It’s essentially for reading online content and viewing media.

I agree, but again Apple’s marketing department is one of the best in the world. They make people believe they have to have it. Personally I’d rather be abducted by aliens. :alien:

Nonsense, it can run whatever the iPhone can, and the UT3 engine runs on iPhone, ergo…

I’d pay 2999 for it – I think that would be a fair price for this giant 16gb ipod touch – but it will most likely cost 5999 once here, so no go. Maybe in 3 generations time. You need an adaptor to plug a usb device into it! How long till it’s running linux tho? 🙂
