Boi on the left... B.o.b on the right

EA sent me an email this morning to announce that the Army of Two: Devil’s Cartel demo is now available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and with that announcement they dropped this brand new video.

The video features two American rappers who go by the names Big Boi (real name Antwan) and B.O.B (Bobby Ray)… seriously I couldn’t make up better names to mock them with so this is really nice of them.

The video shows how these two generic American rappers get notified that two of their women have been kidnapped and they decide to take matters into their own hands by rescuing them while signing the official song for Army of Two.

I’m actually a fan of a lot of rap music but this really just doesn’t do it for me and these two are not the kick-ass warriors that I want to pretend to be when playing Army of Two. EA obviously didn’t think so either as the video switches from live action to in game footage where the characters swap from overweight and skinny black guys to muscular white guys in one swift movement.

It makes me cringe… and they were doing so well in not screwing up the marketing on this one… until now.

I’m also sure our local feminists are going to love the weak females in the video who have no other use than being eye candy.

I'm cranky, arrogant and ever so amazingly annoying but when you get to know me you will also realise I'm honest and incredibly good at describing myself... now pass me that beer

The fail is strong with this one

YEEEEHAA EA!!!….. thanks for ruining Ao2 for most players. At least the sales of the game will go up in da hood.

  • Admiral Chief Erwin

Do NOT watch that video, 3:56 of your life you will NEVER GET BACK

  • Deon Steyn

I like it. It’s like they mixed a little Def Jam in there. The songs not to bad either. You have to take this in context. It used to be sex, drugs and rock & roll. Now it’s blunts forties and bitches.

Im not sure what “context” your talking about, B.O.B would lose if he fought a ground squirrel Surely you need to have believable characters, “Now it’s blunts forties and bitches” that statement is pretty much everything thats wrong with the world rolled up into one great sentence.

      • Admiral Chief Erwin

Laughed real good at your “Ground squirrel” reference!
Also agree with your last statement.

        Have an upvote sir!

      • Deon Steyn

I still like the song and I agree with “that’s whats wrong with the world”, but the world is changing. We are stuck with Bieber,Twilight Sagas and micro-transactions. Companies are adjusting their market strategy accordingly.

If you took a game like Def Jam and those rappers were to fight in real life they would not fare better than B.O.B and yet it was a decent and entertaining game.

    R.I.P. Army of Two

    Eeeeeeeeeek! I’ve gone deaf!

  • Eric Viljoen

I was expecting a LOT worse after I read the article.

  • ApolloZA

Yet another game ruined by EA

  • Tarisma

Before we go all doom and gloom, remember Army of 2 has ever been game to take seriously. Its the kind of game you play in your boxers on a Saturday during that weird 2 hour gap when its appropriate to start drinking but the NZ and AUS super rugby games have ended and the SA games haven’t started. I hardly think that a bad video made by an aging 50 year old who doesn’t really understand his target market is the final nail in this games coffin.

” Its the kind of game you play in your boxers on a Saturday during that weird 2 hour gap when its appropriate to start drinking but the NZ and AUS super rugby games have ended and the SA games haven’t started”

      I fucking love this comment!

    • Deceitfularcher

*bows down in reverence* Awesome comment!!!! Hahahaha

  • Darth_Clericus_The_Ultimate

Dont hate the playa’s, hate the game.

  • Zultre

Really? You lost interest because of a music video? Jeeez somebody should grow a pair …. So the music video is crap , who cares? Will it affect gameplay … NO … will it affect anything regarding the game exept the titel song …. NO … so why exactly did you loose interest again? Oh yeah because of a stupid 3rd party music video ….

    • Sir Captain Rincethis

If the game is supposed to be about some brothers out for revenge, and the developers can’t even this right, you have hope?

      • Tarisma

This game is about to be abut fun. I cant remember what I did in the last two games, but I do remember I had a blast playing split screen co-op.

        • Sir Captain Rincethis

Not doubting its intent, just its obvious and silly fail.

  • http://www.facebook.com/daryl.eksteen Daryl Eksteen

I thought the demo was pretty good. It has the potential to be a good co-op game – and it plays much better than the first two titles. Rap in general puts me off anything and I’m ignoring this sh#t video.

  • DadGamer

Not surprised… Army of Two has always been the douchebag pinnacle of gaming. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/daryl.eksteen Daryl Eksteen

I agree that EA were doing well with their marketing of this game…..until now. – as you said Gavin.

  • http://twitter.com/mathuthe Mathias

Why not play the actual demo?

  • BeatzByChrisBrown

Big Boi is actually a well know rapper (Outkast). Couldn’t care less though.

  • mornelithe

“I’m also sure our local feminists are going to love the weak females in the video who have no other use than being eye candy.”

Oh geez, feminazi’s stand down. Last I checked, female artists employ the exact same tactic. What, no sob story for the guys whose lives are ruined because they’re eye candy to a woman’s performance?

    • http://www.lazygamer.co Gavin Mannion

I agree 100%, was just poking them to see if they were listening./. obviously not

      • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I think they’re far too busy making me sandwiches… ZING! :D Aww! You know I’m joking ladies of lazygamer.

      • mornelithe

        Hehe.

  • Jim Lenoir (Banana Jim)

I always knew it.. Gav is a little gangsta!! :P I used to avoid rap like the plague, until I was introduced to the golden age of rap. I’m too old for the current stuff, but even this old codger taps his foot to some Snoop Dogg and Ice T.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wKNhCjA0pdU (This guy is my hero…)

  • Deceitfularcher

Aye guys… I think its a bit subjective at best and subtly racist at worst to object to the rap music on the basis that its rappers/black guys. What you are alluding to, is that if this ad was done by White Rockers it would have been more palatable somehow? On top of all that – why must games take themselves seriously? Isn’t that (kind of) the antithesis of gaming? I Love the fact that EA even did this game, games like Army of Two and Bulletstorm – although they will never be hits – fill an important niche in gaming. Games for people that just want to blow shit up and shoot bad guys in the face and not in a faux-realistic Medal of Duty kind of way
