Alien Isolation (6)

In April 2013, gamers faced true horror when they attempted to play through the bug-riddled mess of bad ideas and lies known as Alien: Colonial Marines. Obviously, something needed to be done with the Alien license to make it actually worth playing again. And that’s where developer Creative Assembly comes in, with Alien: Isolation.

As was rumoured back a couple of months ago, Alien: Isolation will star the daughter of main film series protagonist Ellen Ripley, as players navigate their way through a decommissioned space station while being hunted down by the penis-shaped head of a Xenomorph creature.

It’s out there, waiting for players and Amanda Ripley in the shadows. And this time, you won’t be packing any heat to easily kill the acid-blooded sexually suggestive nightmare. H.R Giger, you cur.

“In Alien: Isolation, we have taken the series back to the roots of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, the original survival horror,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly in a press release.

Our Alien is a truly terrifying creature, as intelligent as he is hostile, relentless, brutal and unstoppable. This is the Alien game fans of the series have always wanted.

“Creative Assembly has created a truly incredible gaming experience, capturing perfectly the very core of what has made the Alien franchise remain relevant after 35 years,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products further on in the statement.

This partnership has led to the creation of a game that is simply outstanding and sets the tone for what is to come this year for the 35th anniversary of Alien.

And honestly, it looks pretty damn terrifying so far. There’s not a gun in sight in that debut trailer, the visuals look sumptuous and the characters look like actual human beings, instead of your usual stereotypical gung-ho action man protagonist.

Speaking to VG247, UI lead John McKellan confirmed the nature of this particular game by saying “[In Alien: Isolation] you’re always underpowered and you’re always the underdog. We want the player not really ever feel too much in control and to be second-guessing what’s going to happen next.” The PlayStation 4 version of the game also boasts a neat trick in Isolation. The iconic radar and motion tracker from the various films and games will be present, with the pinging sound now coming through the speakers on the PS4 controller.

The game isn’t even about killing the Xenomorph. It’s about surviving several encounters with it, and that sounds exactly like the kind of game that the Aliens franchise deserves. It’s out much later this year, on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Because he's the writer that Lazygamer deserves, but not the one it actually needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can't take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a loud-mouthed journalist, a watchful procrastinator. A dork knight.

  • Lord Chaos

Here’s hoping it turns out better than the mess that was the previous… thing.

    • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

The only way it could be anywhere as bad is if it’s sold as a game that isn’t working and you have to shovel manure to pay for it.

  • TiMsTeR1033

Xenomorphs have penis shaped heads…. Interesting choice of description Darryn…I worry about you sometimes.

    • Lord Chaos

Actually, H.R Giger put a lot of suggestive material into his designs.

      • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

He did. Still love most of his stuff though.

    • Major Commodore 64 Darryn B

The whole concept behind the first Alien movie was about ” alien interspecies rape”, so it’s not that far off actually, and Giger designed towards that theme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_(creature_in_Alien_franchise)

      • TiMsTeR1033

I see your point man on early concept design!

    • RinceThis2014

He is actually on the ball (pun intended) there. I studied the movie at uni and the sexual undertones are all deliberate. Even the face huggers and alien tongue look the way they are for a sexual ‘rape’ reason.

      • TiMsTeR1033

sexual rape of humans or each other?

        • RinceThis2014

Aliens to humans. Not to mention the feminist undertones of the main protagonist (Ripley) running away from a creature that has a penis that shoots from it’s mouth to kill you…

          • Willem Swanepoel

remember the scene in Alien with the chick …. when she got picked up ….

          • RinceThis2014

Indeed :) Though I stopped doing that sort of thing in bars after the whole lawsuit thing… 0-O

          • Willem Swanepoel

            hahahhaha sick.. ;-)~

          • RinceThis2014

            That’s what… No, I can’t…

          • Alien Emperor Trevor

            That’s what she said.

          • RinceThis2014

            You went there! 0-O

          • Alien Emperor Trevor

lol. Actually that was more in reference to the “No, I can’t…”

          • RinceThis2014

Haha. Nicely done sir. I shall make sure I aim for you on Sat, that way you are safe.

          • TiMsTeR1033

damn never looked at it that way, you taught me something new today!

      • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

Well, just look at Johnathan Davis’ microphone stand. That kind of says it all.

  • Purple_Dragon

Just remember how good the awful.Aliens looked in demos. Won’t hold my breath.

  • Alien Emperor Trevor

Call me cynical but I’ll wait & see. ACM was also the greatest Alien game ever… before its release. I hope it’s good & doesn’t suffer too much from the negativity created by the previous game.

    • RinceThis2014

I said to Umar on FB that they need to add ‘THIS IS NOT AN ADD ON FOR A:CM’ into the title…

      • Alien Emperor Trevor

It’s like Dead Space 1 with Aliens & no guns. Everyone wins.

        • RinceThis2014

          Yes. I want that.

  • Sir Rants A Lot Llew. Jelly!!!

Oh please please please let this be good

  • R1ker

I will wait for the reviews before even attempting to get this one. I am still depressed over that mess they call ACM

    • Willem Swanepoel

      jip.

I have looked at my game ACM on steam.. time played .. 24minutes. Didnt even bother to download the updates ….

The stupid game was not even on steam sale .. lolz ;)

      • R1ker

Luckily I stopped myself getting it on Steam played like 20 seconds of it on my friends xbox and that was about it

  • Willem Swanepoel

penis shaped head … damn a penis with teeth and then another penis coming out, out of the penis’ mouth…clearly you are way more creative.

    • Sageville

      Penisception

    • RinceThis2014

Or the egg, that releases a facehugger, that then lays an egg! 0-O

      • Willem Swanepoel

        that deep throats you ?

        • TiMsTeR1033

          hahahaha

        • RinceThis2014

          BWAHAHAHAH!

  • RinceThis2014

Yes yes yes! Mind you, I said the same to that abortion called A:CM…

  • Brenz

Potential to be amazing, will wait for the reviews though, so easy to fuck up

  • Umar Appreciates Nier

Here’s hoping Aliens Amnesia addition will do much better

  • Willem Swanepoel

Another attempt the ruin my most favourite Sci-Fi horror series ever. First it was Ripley Scott with that horrific crap movie Prometheus then ACM came out.

So please for the love of all penis shaped objects… dont kick it in the balls again … please

    • TiMsTeR1033

Prometheus was a good movie, I enjoyed it!

      • RinceThis2014

You are dead to me! DEAD! It was an abomination that made NO sense at all!

        • TiMsTeR1033

          hahaha Dude I am kidding!

          • RinceThis2014

Hehe, right, well now that timbot 1033 is dead you need to change your name to 1034:P

          • TiMsTeR1033

hahaha. Prometheus didnt make no sense, I never forgot my wifes comment “what the fuck are we watching?”

          • Unavengedavo(aka. MadeYouLook)

“Prometheus didnt make no sense” so it made sense then? And don’t try to edit yourself out of this one… I have the proof! :P

          • Willem Swanepoel

            hahaha

          • TiMsTeR1033

apparently I cant speak English, blame the level of education for this!

          • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

Don’t blame the system, blame the learner.

      • Alien Emperor Trevor

        Timbot QUIET
        Timbot OFF.

        • TiMsTeR1033

          Dude I am trolling!

        • RinceThis2014

          HAHAHAHA!

    • RinceThis2014

Too soon to mention Prometheus… Almost as bad as… (Yes, comment!) http://www.themovies.co.za/2014/01/08/we-review-47-ronin-47-shades-of-dismay/

      • TiMsTeR1033

So 47 Ronin was shit! good thing never went to see it yet! I was about to go on sat!

        • SaintsRowNigri

Ever thought of going to see the movie for yourself, and deciding if it was crap or not?
Lesson I have learnt is not to always go on someone else’s opinion.

          • TiMsTeR1033

I have learnt that too, which is why I wait for DVD of movies to come out

      • Alien Emperor Trevor

Oh no – Prometheus was muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch worse :P

    • Gareth L (That Guy)

Ridley Scott directed it, he didn’t write it. In terms of production, direction and photography it was top-notch.

      • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

        Agreed

      • Willem Swanepoel

ofcourse he didnt write it but he was in clear control of the whole movie. Like I have said, it looked pretty but it is not what I was looking for and what he promised.when I watched it.

    • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

Prometheus was good. They just should’ve replaced that horrific actress in the lead role with a person.

      • Willem Swanepoel

It was nice and shiny. Good quality CGI etc. but I do not just watch movies because it is nice and shiny. Based on his promise and what came out was not the same.

        • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

Alright. I can agree with that. But seriously that lead actress put me off the movie so much that even if it was a great film I wouldn’t be able to re-watch it. She’d obviously had so much work done that her face has lost its ability to show expressions.

          • Willem Swanepoel

            Yeah, she was very bad!

  • Hammersteyn

I am cautiously excited for this.

  • Mike

Creative Assembly? The same people that work on the Total War games? One of my favourite series, but almost allways a buggy mess. Oh yeah, great people to follow up on A:CM.

  • Sageville

I love the idea of improvising weapons, traps and always being on the back foot in the alien genre.

But GOD HELP THEM IF THIS IS ACM 2!!

    • RinceThis2014

I just hope they give us the option of microtransactions to create sick weapons, hey? Who’s with me?! Guys? GUYS?!

      • Lord Chaos

That will be the best part of the game. If they don’t put it in I won’t buy it. :P

        • RinceThis2014

And the multiplayer element. Don’t forget that, NEVER forget that!

          • Lord Chaos

Just as long as I’m allowed to quick-scope.

          • RinceThis2014

            And camp!

          • Gr8_Balls_o_Fire

And get my 8-year-old cousin to sweat at your family!

          • RinceThis2014

            HAHAHAHAHA! Nice :)

      • Willem Swanepoel

Dark Souls style but even harder, like so hard that you have to buy the DLC gun to move on.

  • TiMsTeR1033

I hope they make This game scare the shit out of us!! make people NEED to buy adult diapers!!

  • JJ’s horrible secret (John)

    Niiice

  • Gr8_Balls_o_Fire

Does anyone other than me think that if they announce a new game for both New-Gen and Last-Gen systems, then that means that the game is not going to be living up to its full potential on New-Gen? As in, the games would be optimized for the Last-Gen, and graphically boosted for New-Gen.

I would like to have some dedicated games that really take advantage of the new tech. Better actual gameplay, better physics, better AI and all that.

    Pretty graphics too :D

  • Rock789

I wanna be excited for this… I really do. But I shall keep my excitement in check and wait and see how this unfolds. The pain from that… THING of a game is still too much to bare!

  • DJSkippy

Why even mention Xbone as a platform? Should just read: Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC. We aint gonna get the bone the way MS avoid it like the plague when mentioning it here locally.
