NSMB has outsold Mario Galaxy already
   January 22nd, 2010 clock image 11:30 am

NSMBW

New Super Mario Bros has only been out for around 45 days now and has so far racked up over 4.1 million in sales which means it is already outselling Super Mario Galaxy which has been around for just over 2 years.

What’s even more shocking is that those numbers are for America only, NSMB has already sold over 2.5 million in Europe and 2.4 million in Japan.

Now my maths isn’t that great but selling 9 million units in 45 days surely means Nintendo are lathering themselves in dollar notes and royalty cheques.

There has been some criticism about NSMB in a few quarters where people are saying the game is simply just a remake and adds nothing new to the equation. Well I should hopefully have my review out next week but I can tell you now it’s already a family favourite in my house and while it’s not groundbreaking in any way it is your typical high quality Nintendo title and is well worth the money.

“Well worth the money” – I do not agree with this statement.

Nintendo re-used the ds nsm engine , upscaled it , added a few wii-mote features , and still decides to sell it at the normal AAA price? Does this make sense?

Now I love NSMB Wii , and I do own a copy. However they are too greedy and it is starting to show. This game should have been R200 max. It is definitely not worth the R550 – R599 price tag.

It looks and plays like a well made free online flash game. They should start to pass some of the savings on to the consumer , after all we got them to where they are now.

I have heard this line of argument previously about the game and while it may be valid I am not sure it’s entirely fair.

It’s the same argument that was used to claim that Left4Dead 2 wasn’t worth the full retail price.

The end result is that this is the first time Mario Bros game had landed on the Wii and the controls work perfectly, the graphics are fine and the gameplay is faultless.

I never played the DS game so maybe I have a different view but I can’t see how I could have had my whole family laughing and jumping around the room via a DS game.

I do not regret for a second the money I spent on this game.

This game is awesome, haven’t laughed so hard for so long over and over in a long time. P.s. you gotta play it with 3-4 people to really get things fun.

  • Dawid

Well, it’s already surpassed the 360 sales of Modern Warfare 2 and it eating into the PS3 numbers. Quite glad it’s selling so well – it rids us of future Wii Music possibilities.
